''The Secret Kingdom'' is a British television series which originally aired on BBC in eight episodes between 6 May and 24 June 1960. It is an adaptation of the 1938 novel of the same title by Walter Greenwood.Baskin p.48 The plot revolves around Paula Byron, from a working class family in Salford. It was directed and produced by Chloe Gibson. All eight episodes are believed to be lost. The Secret Kingdom (novel)
''The Secret Kingdom'' is a 1938 novel by the British writer Walter Greenwood. Like his best-known novel ''Love on the Dole'' it is set in Salford. It portrays the working-class socialist Byron family, and particularly the eldest daughter Paula who tries to establish an independent identity after finding working a parlour maid. She encounters Bert Treville in nearby Manchester and the two begin a courtship. After his death due to heavy drinking, she brings up her son Lance as a single-mother, throwing her effort into her talented child she is vindicated when he emerges as a talented concert pianist - performing on national radio in the final scene. Kevin Stoney
Kevin Stoney (22 January 1921 – 22 January 2008) was a British actor. He was best known for his television roles, in which he became familiar for his "portrayal of establishment types". During the Second World War, Stoney served with the Royal Air Force. On television, he appeared in three serials of the science fiction series ''Doctor Who'' over a period of ten years, playing Mavic Chen in '' The Daleks' Master Plan'' (1965-66), Tobias Vaughn in '' The Invasion'' (1968) and Tyrum in '' Revenge of the Cybermen'' (1975). Marjorie Rhodes (9 April 1897 – 4 July 1979) was a British actress. She was born Millicent Wise in Kingston upon Hull, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. Dennis Wilfred Davies, known professionally as Richard Davies (25 January 1926 – 8 October 2015), was a Welsh actor. He was probably best known for his performance as the exasperated schoolmaster Mr. Price in the popular LWT situation comedy '' Please Sir!''. He used a broad Welsh accent for much of his work, but had used other accents to play a wide range of characters, in addition to several Welsh stereotypes. Raymond Michael Brooks (born 20 April 1939) is an English television and film actor. Career Early work Raymond Michael Brooks was born in Brighton, East Sussex, and began as a television actor. John Wilson Stratton (7 November 1925 – 25 October 1991) was a British actor, born in Clitheroe, Lancashire, where he kept his permanent home. He is perhaps best known for his early film roles during the fifties, where he played the young apprentice parts of Ferraby and Ward opposite Jack Hawkins in both '' The Cruel Sea'' (1953) and '' The Long Arm'' (1956) respectively.
