The Russell Gilbert Show
''The Russell Gilbert Show'' is a short-lived Australian comedy show hosted by Russell Gilbert in 1998. It was produced by Somers Carroll Productions and was partially a spin-off from ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', where Gilbert had risen to prominence. The show's writers included Kevin Blond, Paul Calleja and Andrew Maj. Seven episodes were filmed and aired. Gilbert's former castmate from '' The Comedy Company'', Glenn Robbins also starred in the show. The show was successful and beat ''Ally McBeal'' (Channel 7) in the ratings. In 2000, a similar concept was attempted: ''Russell Gilbert Live'', which was followed in 2001 by ''Russell Gilbert Was Here!''. Both new shows were relatively short-lived. Russell Gilbert
Russell Gilbert (born 17 October 1959) is an Australian comedian from Footscray, Victoria, best known for his television appearances on programs such as ''The Comedy Company'', ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' and ''The Russell Gilbert Show''; he was also a radio presenter and a live stage and film actor. In 2015, Gilbert suffered a stroke during surgery to treat a Intracranial aneurysm, brain aneurysm. Since then he has mostly receded from public life. Somers Carroll was formed by Daryl Somers and Ernie Carroll, to produce ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'', after original producer Gavin Disney left the series. Hey Hey It's Saturday
''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' is a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in December 1990 and Somers then formed a production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. Carroll retired in 1994, and Ossie was no longer featured in the show. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. ''The Comedy Company'' is an Australian sketch comedy television series that aired from 16 February 1988 until 11 November 1990 on Network Ten. It was created and directed by cast member Ian McFadyen, and co-directed and produced by Jo Lane. He rose to prominence with the bands Ol' 55 and Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons. Career Music career Wilde was the tenor saxophonist (and did some vocals) with Ol' 55 from 1975 until 1977.
