''The Runner'' is a 1962 Australian television play written by Alan Seymour which screened on ATN 7. Alan Seymour
Alan Seymour (6 June 192723 March 2015) was an Australian playwright and author. He is best known for the play ''The One Day of the Year'' (1958). His international reputation rests not only on this early play, but also on his many screenplays, television scripts and adaptations of novels for film and television. Career Seymour was born in Fremantle, Western Australia. Reg Lye
Reginald Thomas Lye (13 October 1912 – 23 March 1987), was an Australian actor who worked extensively in Australia and England. Career Lye was one of the busiest Australian actors of the 1950s, appearing in the majority of locally shot features at the time, as well as on stage and radio. Lee Robinson called him "one of the best character actors in Australia." After running his own revue company in the Riverina, Lye joined Sydney's New Theatre. His stage credits there included ''How Beautiful With Shoes'' (1946), ''God Bless the Guv'nor'' (1946), ''Enemies'' (1946), ''Of Mice and Men'' (1946), ''Sons of the South'' (1947), ''Woman Bites Dog'', '' Deep Are the Roots'' (1947), ''A Physician in Spite of Himself'' (1947), ''Rocket Range'' (1947) and '' Sky without Birds'' (1952). Herb Elliott
Herbert James Elliott (born 25 February 1938) is a former Australian athlete and arguably the world's greatest middle-distance runner of his era. In August 1958 he set the world record in the mile run, clocking 3:54.5, 2.7 seconds under the record held by Derek Ibbotson; later in the month he set the 1500 metres world record, running 3:36.0, 2.1 seconds under the record held by Stanislav Jungwirth. In the 1500 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympics, he won the gold medal and bettered his own world record with a time of 3:35.6. Herb Elliot never lost a mile run and accomplished 36 wins over this distance. During his career, he broke four minutes for the mile on 17 occasions. Only David Richards came close to beating him. Elliott retired from athletics soon after the 1960 Olympics, at the age of 22. He made a career in business, and at one time was chairman of Fortescue Metals Group. ATN-7 Television Plays
ATN is the Sydney Flagship (broadcasting), flagship television station of the Seven Network in Australia. The licence, issued to a company named Amalgamated Television Services, a subsidiary of Fairfax Media, John Fairfax & Sons, was one of the first four licences (two in Sydney, two in Melbourne) to be issued for commercial television stations in Australia. The station formed an affiliation with GTV (Australian TV station), GTV-9 Melbourne in 1957, in order to share content. In 1963, Frank Packer ended up owning both GTV-9 and TCN, TCN-9, so as a result the stations switched their previous affiliations. ATN-7 and HSV-7 joined to create the Australian Television Network, which later became the Seven Network. ATN-7 is the home of the national level Seven News bulletins.
