Harry Solter
Henry Lewis Solter (November 19, 1873 – March 2, 1920) was an American silent film actor and director. Career Solter began his career as an actor in 1908 with Biograph Studios. That same year he met actress Florence Lawrence while making the film ''Romeo and Juliet'' for Vitagraph Studios and married on August 30 of that year. In 1909, Solter began working for Carl Laemmle's Independent Moving Pictures Co. of America (IMP) as an actor but also as a director. Over the next nine years, he directed 148 silent films. In 1912, Solter and his wife established the Victor Studios in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1913, they sold out to Laemmle whose amalgamation of several studios created the colossal Universal Film Manufacturing Co. Solter continued to direct for the new company until 1918 when health problems emerged. Marion Leonard
Marion Leonard (June 9, 1881 – January 9, 1956) was an American stage actress who became one of the first motion picture celebrities in the early years of the silent film era. Early career Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Marion Leonard began her acting career in live theatre, but at the age of 27 she started performing in the rapidly expanding film industry. She signed a contract in 1908 with the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company and initially worked at that studio's production facilities in New York City, which were then located at 11 East 14th Street in Manhattan. There she made her screen debut in ''At the Crossroads of Life'', a short directed by Wallace McCutcheon, Jr. and written by D. W. Dorothy West (August 29, 1891 – December 11, 1980) was an American stage and film actress, as well as a radio performer. Early life Dorothy West grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. Career West was a star in Biograph Company, Biograph silent films in New York City, New York. She later relocated to Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood with a group of D. W. Griffith stars that included Mary Pickford, Marion Leonard, Florence Barker (actress), Florence Barker, and Mack Sennett in 1909. Mack Sennett (born Michael Sinnott; January 17, 1880 – November 5, 1960) was a Canadian-American producer, director, actor, and studio head who was known as the "King of Comedy" during his career. Born in Danville, Quebec, he started acting in films in the Biograph Company of New York City in 1908, and later opened Keystone Studios in Edendale, Los Angeles, Edendale, California in 1912. Keystone possessed the first fully enclosed film stage, and Sennett became famous as the originator of slapstick routines such as pie-throwing and car-chases, as seen in the Keystone Cops films. Herbert Yost (also credited as Barry O'Moore and Bertram Yost; December 8, 1879 – October 23, 1945) was an American actor who in a career that spanned nearly half a century performed predominantly on stage in Repertory theatre, stock companies and in numerous Broadway theatre, Broadway productions. Born in Milford, Connecticut, he became a Hollywood actor and was head of dramatic production at the Kinemacolor Company of America until October 1913.
