''The Return'' is an Australian play by Reg Cribb. In 2001 it won the Patrick White Playwrights' Award and was shortlisted for the Queensland Premier's Literary Award. In 2006 Reg Cribb adapted it to film, retitling it '' Last Train to Freo'' (2006). The play has been presented several times since then. Reg Cribb
Reginald Cribb is an Australian playwright and actor. Early life and education Cribb is from Perth, Western Australia. Cribb graduated from National Institute of Dramatic Art at the University of New South Wales in 1990. Writing career Cribb's first play, ''Night of the Sea Monkey'', was performed in 1999. His play ''Gulpilil'', co-written with David Gulpilil about Gulpilil's life, was performed in March 2004 at the Adelaide Festival of Arts, performed by Gulpilil, to standing ovations. It was directed by Neil Armfield. The show was later staged in Brisbane and Sydney. ''Country Song'' is a play about Indigenous Australian singer and musician Jimmy Little, performed by the Queensland Theatre Company at the Cremorne Theatre at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in August 2015. Patrick White Playwrights' Award
The Patrick White Playwrights' Award is an annual Australian literary award established jointly by the Sydney Theatre Company and ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' in honour of Patrick White's contribution to Australian theatre. The award was launched in 2000 and in 2011, was amended to include the Patrick White Fellowship. The A$7,500 cash award is given for an unproduced play to foster the development of Australian playwrights. In addition, the winning play is given a public reading presented by the Sydney Theatre Company in association with the Sydney Writers' Festival. The Patrick White Fellowship is A$25,000 for an established Australian playwright whose work has been produced professionally in Australia within the last four years in recognition of their contribution to the theatre and their art form. Queensland Premier's Literary Awards
The Queensland Premier's Literary Awards were an Australian suite of literary awards inaugurated in 1999 and disestablished in 2012. It was one of the most generous suites of literary awards within Australia, with $225,000 in prize money across 14 categories with prizes up to $25,000 in some categories. The awards upon their establishment incorporated a number of pre-existing awards including the Steele Rudd Award for the best Australian collection of new short fiction and the David Unaipon Award for unpublished Indigenous writing. The awards were established by Peter Beattie, the then Premier of Queensland in 1999 and abolished by Premier Campbell Newman, shortly after winning the 2012 Queensland state election. In response, the Queensland writing community established the Queensland Literary Awards to ensure the Awards continued in some form. ''Last Train to Freo'' is a 2006 Australian film based on Reg Cribb's 2001 play '' The Return'', and directed by Jeremy Sims. Synopsis Two thugs from the Perth suburb of Midland catch the last train to Fremantle. When a young woman, unaware that the train guards are on strike, boards the train several stops later, the thugs are interested by her. AusStage: The Australian Live Performance Database is an online database which records information about live performances in Australia, providing records of productions from the first recorded performance in Australia (1789, by convicts) up until the present day. The only repository of Australian performing arts in the world, it is managed by a consortium of universities, government agencies, industry organisations and arts institutions, and mostly funded by the Australian Research Council.
