The Rescue (Doctor Who)
''The Rescue'' is the third serial of the Doctor Who (season 2), second season of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Written by outgoing story editor David Whitaker (screenwriter), David Whitaker and directed by Christopher Barry, the serial was broadcast on BBC1 in two weekly parts on 2 January and 9 January 1965. Rescue comprises responsive operations that usually involve the saving of life, removal from danger, liberation from restraint, or the urgent treatment of injury, injuries after an incident. It may be facilitated by a range of tools and equipment necessary to deal with the specific circumstances. Rescues may be necessary in a wide range of circumstances and environments, and specialised procedures have been developed for many of these. A rescue may also be performed on an ad hoc basis by the people who are available on site, using equipment available on site or assembled from available materials, particularly when the rescue is urgent or it is unlikely that specialist assistance will be available within a reasonable time. Doctor Who (season 2)
The second season of the British television, British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' was originally broadcast on BBC1 between 1964 and 1965. The season began on 31 October 1964 with ''Planet of Giants'' and ended with ''The Time Meddler'' on 24 July 1965. Like the Doctor Who (season 1), first season, production was overseen by the BBC's first female producer Verity Lambert. Story editor David Whitaker (screenwriter), David Whitaker continued to handle the scripts and stories during early production, handing over to Dennis Spooner as the season began to air; Spooner subsequently left his role by the season's end, and was replaced by Donald Tosh for its final serial. The TARDIS (; acronym for "Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space") is a fictional hybrid of a time machine and spacecraft that appears in the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' and its various spin-offs. While a TARDIS is capable of disguising itself, the exterior appearance of the Doctor's TARDIS typically mimics a police box, an obsolete type of telephone kiosk that was once commonly seen on streets in Britain in the 1940s and 50s.
