The Red Signal (film)
''The Red Signal'' (French: ''Le signal rouge'') is a 1949 French drama film directed by Ernst Neubach and starring Erich von Stroheim, Denise Vernac and Frank Villard. It is based on a novel of the same title by Adolf Schütz and Paul Baudisch. It was shot at the Victorine Studios in Nice. The film's sets were designed by the art director Louis Le Barbenchon. Synopsis In a small Austrian town, physician Mathias Berthold is haunted by the memory of his wife who died in a train accident. Under psychological strain he hears his wife's voice commanding him to "stop the train". In a trance-like state he attempts to sabotage the railway tracks, and is shot and wounded by the police. Realising his torment, he goes for treatment in a specialist clinic in Vienna. Doctor Irène Dreiser, who is sympathetic to Berthold, takes over his patients during his absence. Ernst Neubach
Ernst Neubach (3 January 1900 – 21 May 1968) was an Austrian screenwriter, producer and director. Biography Of Jewish descent, Neubach was a veteran of World War I, after which he worked as a master of ceremonies in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. He wrote lyrics for songs and over 2,000 hits, including ''I've lost my heart in Heidelberg'' (1925) and ''In Heaven There Is No Beer'' (1956). Successful operetta librettos include ''Gentleman Jack'' (Music: Carita by Horst). With the dawn of the talkie era, he began to write screenplays for musical comedies. After the Nazis seized power in 1933, Neubach lived mostly in Vienna. On 9 March 1937, he became a member of the Patriotic Front. After the Anschluss, Neubach emigrated to France. Roland (; ; or ''Rotholandus''; or ''Rolando''; died 15 August 778) was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne who became one of the principal figures in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France.
