The Protector (1985 Film)
''The Protector'' () is a 1985 action film directed by James Glickenhaus and starring Jackie Chan, Danny Aiello, and Roy Chiao. A Hong Kong–American co-production, it was Chan's second attempt at breaking into the American film market, after 1980 film ''The Big Brawl'', which had moderate box office success but was considered a disappointment. Conflicts between Glickenhaus and Chan during production led to two official versions of the film: Glickenhaus' original version for American audiences and a Hong Kong version re-edited by Jackie Chan. The original Glickenhaus cut only received a sparse release in North America, while Chan's edited version was a moderate success in Asia. James Glickenhaus
James Glickenhaus (born July 24, 1950) is an American filmmaker, financier, and automotive entrepreneur. He directed, wrote, and produced a number of action films during the 1980s and 1990s, including ''The Exterminator'' (1980), ''The Soldier (1982 film), The Soldier'' (1982), ''Shakedown (1988 film), Shakedown'' (1988), and the Jackie Chan vehicle ''The Protector (1985 film), The Protector'' (1985). Fred Robert Weintraub (April 27, 1928 – March 5, 2017) was an American film and television producer and writer. Robert Clouse (March 6, 1928 – February 4, 1997) was an American film director and producer, known primarily for his work in the action/adventure and martial arts genres. He died on February 4, 1997, in Oregon of kidney failure. Clouse directed Bruce Lee in Lee's second English-speaking film starring role (the other being '' Marlowe''), 1973's ''Enter the Dragon''. John William Minton (February 19, 1948 – March 20, 1995) was an American professional wrestler and actor, better known by his ring name, Big John Studd.
