''The Pop Hits'' is the third greatest hits album, greatest hits compilation album by Swedish Pop music, pop duo Roxette, released on 24 March 2003 by Roxette Recordings and Capitol Records. It was the second in a two-part series of "best of" albums released by the duo in quick succession, and was preceded by ''The Ballad Hits'' in November 2002. The album was not as commercially successful as its predecessor, although it did peak within the top twenty of various Scandinavian record charts. It was also certified gold in Brazil. Recording and promotion Per Gessle originally planned to record two new songs for ''The Pop Hits''. "Opportunity Nox" was written by Gessle, and first recorded at his Tits & Ass Studios in Halmstad on 4 March 2002. Recording later took place at EMI Studios in Stockholm in October 2002, a month after vocalist Marie Fredriksson's Marie Fredriksson#Cancer, diagnosis of a brain tumour. Roxette
Roxette is a Swedish pop rock duo originally consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, both of whom were already established musicians in Sweden prior to the band's formation. Fredriksson had released a number of successful solo albums, while Gessle had been the lead singer and songwriter of Gyllene Tider, a band which had three number one albums in Sweden. Acting on the advice of Rolf Nygren, the Chief executive officer, CEO of their mutual record label EMI, Fredriksson and Gessle collaborated to record "Neverending Love", the first single from Roxette's 1986 debut album ''Pearls of Passion'', which were both hits in Sweden. Their international breakthrough came with the release of ''Look Sharp! (Roxette album), Look Sharp!'' in 1988. ''Have a Nice Day'' is the sixth studio album by Swedish pop duo Roxette, released worldwide from 22 February 1999 by Roxette Recordings and EMI. Recorded over an 18-month period in studios in Sweden and Spain, the album was produced by Marie Fredriksson, Per Gessle, Clarence Öfwerman and Michael Ilbert, and was their first studio album since '' Crash! Boom! Bang!'' in 1994. The album was not released in the US, as the duo were no longer signed to a label there. A deluxe edition was released in Spanish-speaking territories and, in Arabian regions, the naked babies on the cover were digitally removed, due to religious concerns. Gessle and Fredriksson separately recorded numerous demos for the album. These demos incorporated an elaborate level of production, using live instrumentation such as strings and brass instruments. "Fireworks" is a song by Swedish pop music duo Roxette, released on 5 September 1994 by EMI Records as the third single from the duo's fifth studio album, '' Crash! Boom! Bang!'' (1994). Written by Per Gessle and produced by Clarence Öfwerman, the song achieved moderate success in various European countries. It peaked within the top 20 in Austria and Finland and reached number 30 on the UK Singles Chart. The accompanying music video was directed by Michael Geoghegan. "Fingertips '93", is a song by Swedish pop duo Roxette, released as the third and final single from their fourth studio album, ''Tourism'' (1992), on 26 January 1993. The single was only released in a select few countries, including Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain, and charted moderately. The song would be given a wider release when it was issued as one of the B-sides on the duo's proceeding single, "Almost Unreal", which was released four months later in May 1993. ''The World According to Gessle'' is the third solo album by Swedish pop singer Per Gessle, released on 2 May 1997. It was his first solo album in English. The title is a paraphrase of "The World According to Garp" - the novel by John Irving. The album topped the Swedish Album Chart. " Do You Wanna Be My Baby?", " Kix" and " I Want You to Know" were released as singles. The videos for the singles were all directed by Jonas Åkerlund. At the end of the "Lay Down Your Arms" track, there is a hidden track. The track, an alternate version of "Kix" is called Cha-cha-cha, sung like Elvis Presley. ''Room Service'' is the seventh studio album by Swedish pop duo Roxette, released worldwide from 2 April 2001. A planned release in the United States failed to materialise, as the duo's label there, Edel Records America, had been disbanded the previous month due to financial difficulties. Marie Fredriksson was not as involved in the album's production as she had been on previous records, taking part in the composition of just two songs. The album was remastered and reissued with bonus tracks in 2009. Three singles were released from the record: lead single " The Centre of the Heart" was a hit throughout Europe, and was Roxette's third number one single in their home country. "Stars" is a song by Swedish pop music duo Roxette, released on 26 July 1999 as the third single from their sixth studio album, ''Have a Nice Day'' (1999). It was their first – and only – foray into the techno subgenre and features a children's choir in the song's chorus. A remix of the song by production collective Almighty served as the version which was predominantly played on European radio. The song became a hit throughout Europe, particularly in Scandinavia and in Germany, where it became the album's best-performing single. Its music video was directed by Anton Corbijn. A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads were particularly characteristic of the popular poetry and song of Great Britain and Ireland from the Late Middle Ages until the 19th century. They were widely used across Europe, and later in Australia, North Africa, North America and South America. While ballads have no prescribed structure and may vary in their number of lines and stanzas, many ballads employ quatrains with ABCB or ABAB rhyme schemes, the key being a rhymed second and fourth line.
