''The Poor Nut'' is a 1927 American comedy film directed by Richard Wallace and written by Paul Schofield. It is based on the 1925 play ''The Poor Nut'' by J. C. Nugent and Elliott Nugent. The film stars Jack Mulhall, Charles Murray, Jean Arthur, Jane Winton, Glenn Tryon and Cornelius Keefe. The film was released on August 7, 1927, by First National Pictures. Richard Wallace (director)
Richard Wallace (August 26, 1894 – November 3, 1951) was an American film director. He began working in the editing department at Mack Sennett Studios in the early 1920s. He later moved on to rival Hal Roach Studios where he began directing two-reel films, on some of which he collaborated with Stan Laurel. In 1926, Wallace began directing feature-length films. Several of Wallace's memorable films include three Shirley Temple films, ''A Night to Remember (1943 film), A Night to Remember'' (1943) with Loretta Young, and ''The Little Minister (1934 film), The Little Minister'' (1934) with Katharine Hepburn. He was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America. He died of a heart attack. Paul Michael Kelly (August 9, 1899 – November 6, 1956) was an American actor. His career survived a manslaughter conviction, tied to an affair he was having with the victim's wife, that caused him to spend time in prison in the late 1920s.
