The Pittsburgh Reporter is an American online newspaper based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1939 as a weekly newspaper, it evolved into a daily online platform with a focusing on regional news and community issues. The Reporter has been a key voice for Southern Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Its leadership saw a notable shift in the 1970s with Roberta Smith at the helm as publisher/editor, later succeeded by her son Tom Smith in 1999. Bon Air (Pittsburgh)
Bon Air is a neighborhood in the south portion of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Its two zip codes are 15226 and 15210, and it is represented in the Pittsburgh City Council by the council member for District 4 (South Neighborhoods). Bon Air is small in geographic size compared to the other communities in District 4. It is on a mountaintop, surrounded almost entirely by steep forested mountainsides. Road access to Bon Air is limited by only two connecting streets to the Knoxville neighborhood to the east. South Side Slopes
South Side Slopes is a neighborhood in the South Side area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The neighborhood comprises the hills from the South Side Flats neighborhood along the Monongahela River from the Liberty Bridge (west) to beyond Josephine Street (east). In many parts of the South Side Slopes, homes offer panoramic views of the city skyline that span the distance from beyond McKees Rocks, to Homestead. Many homes are perched well above the city skyline. This neighborhood provides access to the South Side Flats by various means, including the many public staircases. Mount Oliver, Pennsylvania
Mount Oliver is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,394 at the 2020 census. It is a largely residential area situated atop a crest about west of the Monongahela River. The borough is surrounded entirely by the city of Pittsburgh, having resisted annexation attempts by the city. History Mount Oliver was first settled by John Ormsby, an officer in the command of General Forbes, who was granted 249 acres of land along the banks of the Monongahela River. In 1788 Allegheny County was divided into townships, with Ormsby's plot being part of St. Clair Township. History Knoxville Borough was incorporated on September 7, 1877, from that part of Lower St. Clair Township adjoining Beltzhoover and Allentown. Beltzhoover (Pittsburgh)
Beltzhoover is a neighborhood in southern Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in an area known as the South Hills. The area is named for Melchior Beltzhoover who was a tradesman there in the early 19th century. The community borders McKinley Park. The neighborhood lies in the 18th ward and is predominantly an African-American neighborhood. The area has commonly been referred as up and coming, due to fact that the crime rate has decreased tremendously over the past ten years. The neighborhood is currently the subject of a revitalization effort by local organizations, such as the Beltzhoover Consensus Group, the Hilltop Housing Initiative, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
