The Phantom (serial)
''The Phantom'' is a 1943 15-chapter cliffhanger superhero serial, produced by Rudolph C. Flothow, directed by B. Reeves Eason, and starring Tom Tyler in the title role. It is based on Lee Falk's comic strip ''The Phantom'', first syndicated to newspapers in 1936 by King Features Syndicate. The serial also features Jeanne Bates as the Phantom's girlfriend Diana Palmer, and Ace the Wonder Dog as the Phantom's trusted German shepherd Devil (who is a wolf in the original comic strip). Plot summary Professor Davidson plans an expedition to find the Lost City of Zoloz. The location of the city is contained on seven pieces of ivory, three of which Davidson already possesses. Doctor Bremmer, however, intends to find the lost city and use it as a secret airbase for his unnamed country. Rudolph Flothow
Rudolph C. Flothow (November 23, 1895 - December 21, 1971) was a movie and television producer active from 1915 through the mid-1950s, producing more than 45 films and over 80 television episodes. Most of his productions were crime films for Columbia Pictures, including the 1943 Batman (serial), Batman serial, and Crime Doctor (character), Crime Doctor, The Whistler (radio series)#Films, Whistler, Boston Blackie, and Ellery Queen#Films, Ellery Queen films. He directed the sound sequences in the early sound feature Lucky Boy (1929 film), Lucky Boy, starring George Jessel (actor), George Jessel. The Phantom is a fictional superhero character who operates from the fictional country of Bangalla (originally Bengali). The character was created by Lee Falk for the adventure comic strip ''The Phantom'', which debuted in newspapers on February 17, 1936. The Phantom was later depicted in many forms of media, including television shows, films, comic books, and video games. Al Ferguson
Al Ferguson (19 April 1888 – 4 December 1971) was an Irish-born American film actor. Born in County Wexford, Ireland, he appeared in nearly 300 films between 1912 and 1956. Billed as Smoke Ferguson, by 1912 he was making Westerns for Selig Polyscope Company. In the 1920s he was the star, producer, and director for several low-budget Western films. He also appeared in some television Westerns in the 1950s. Ferguson died in Burbank, California. He is interred at Glendale's Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Joe Devlin (actor)
Christopher Joseph Devlin (February 7, 1894 – October 1, 1973), better known as Joe Devlin, was a vaudeville and burlesque performer, and American actor with over 170 film and television credits. A singer, comedian, and actor, he toured extensively in vaudeville and burlesque between 1911 and 1937. Devlin was a member of the Minsky Winter Garden house company in New York City for a few seasons. He relocated to California in 1937 and worked as a character actor in film and TV until 1967, often playing henchmen, bartenders, and cops. He had a co-starring role in Dick Tracy TV series in the early 1950s. Early life Devlin was born on February 7, 1894, in a tenement on Vandam Street in Manhattan, New York, the son of Anna (Bird) Devlin and John Francis Devlin, a fireman. Kenneth MacDonald (born Kenneth Dollins; September 8, 1901 – May 5, 1972) was an American film actor. Born in Portland, Indiana, MacDonald made more than 220 film and television appearances between 1931 and 1972. His name is sometimes seen as Kenneth McDonald; his later roles sometimes credited him as Kenneth R. MacDonald. Career MacDonald began his career as a stage actor. In 1923 he appeared in his first feature film, '' Slow as Lightning''. He came to Hollywood in the early 1930s, where he played small roles in low-budget, independent productions. Francis Connolly Shannon (27 July 1874 – 1 February 1959) was an Irish actor and writer. Career A stage actor and silent film pioneer, Shannon made his screen debut in 1913's '' The Artist's Joke''. He later appeared in dozens of films through the mid-1920s, including ''The Prisoner of Zenda'' (1913) and '' Monsieur Beaucaire'' (1924). Shannon then returned to the stage until beckoned back to Hollywood in 1931 and played a few substantial supporting parts, including Captain McTavish in Warner Bros.' Ernie Adams (born Ernest Stephen Dumarais; June 18, 1885 – November 26, 1947) was an American vaudevillian performer, stage and screen character actor and writer, he appeared primarily in small uncredited parts. Biography Adams was also billed as Ernest S. Adams and Ernie S. Adams. He appeared in vaudeville, theater, and film. He started his career in musical comedy on Broadway theatre. Along with his wife Berdonna Gilbert, he formed the vaudeville team "Gilbert and Adams". He appeared in more than 400 films starting from the silent era between 1919 and 1948, and was particularly known for playing shady characters. On Broadway, Adams appeared in ''Toot-Toot!'' (1918). On November 26, 1947, Adams died of an acute pulmonary edema at the West Olympic Sanitarium in Los Angeles, California, aged 62.
