Party Line (politics)
In politics, "the line", "the party line", or "the lines to take" is an idiom for a political party or social movement's canon agenda, as well as ideological elements specific to the organization's partisanship. The common phrase " toeing the party line" describes a person who speaks in a manner that conforms to their political party's position, with the position frequently defined by the party leadership. The party structure pushing its representatives in parliament to vote along the line is referred to as party discipline, and efforts to enforce it are referred to as " whipping". Likewise, a party-line vote is one in which most or all of the legislators from each political party voted in accordance with that party's policies. In several countries, a whip attempts to ensure this. Party Line (telephony)
A party line (multiparty line, shared service line, party wire) is a local loop telephone circuit that is shared by multiple telephone service subscribers. Party line systems were widely used to provide telephone service, starting with the first commercial switchboards in 1878. A majority of Bell System subscribers in the mid-20th century in the United States and Canada were served by party lines, which had a discount over individual service. During wartime shortages, these were often the only available lines. British users similarly benefited from the party line discount. Farmers in rural Australia and South Africa used party lines, where a single line spanned miles from the nearest town to one property and on to the next. This list of ''Mario'' television episodes covers three television series based upon Nintendo's ''Mario'' series of video games. The three series were produced by DIC Entertainment: '' The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!'' (1989) is based upon ''Super Mario Bros.'' and ''Super Mario Bros. 2''; '' The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3'' (1990) is based upon '' Super Mario Bros. 3''; and ''Super Mario World'' (1991) is loosely based upon ''Super Mario World''. All three series focus on the characters of Mario and Luigi assisting Princess Toadstool and Toad in thwarting the plots and schemes of King Koopa.
