Skunk Anansie formed in 1994, disbanded in 2001 and reformed in 2009. The name "Skunk Anansie" is taken from Akan folk tales of Anansi the spider-man of Ghana, with "Skunk" added to "make the name nastier". They have released six studio albums: '' Paranoid & Sunburnt'' (1995), ''Stoosh'' (1996), ''Post Orgasmic Chill'' (1999), ''Wonderlustre'' (2010), ''Black Traffic'' (2012) and '' Anarchytecture'' (2016); one compilation album, ''Smashes and Trashes'' (2009); and several hit singles, including "Charity", "Hedonism", "Selling Jesus" and "Weak". They are often grouped as part of the Britrock movement, as opposed to the contemporary Britpop of their early years due to their overall harder sound. The band, in 2004, was named as one of the most successful UK chart acts between 1952 and 2003 by the ''Guinness Book of British Hit Single ...

The emergence of Generation X as a Culture, cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative music. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or arena rock, commercial rock or pop. Anarchytecture
''Anarchytecture'' is the sixth studio album by English band Skunk Anansie. It was produced by Tom Dalgety and released in January 2016 through earMUSIC and Carosello Records. Critical reception ''Anarchytecture'' received mixed professional reviews. The ''Clash'' magazine wrote that while it sounded "more sincere" than the previous album ''Black Traffic'' the songwriting was still "timid", citing the lead single "Love Someone Else" as "one of the dullest songs" ever written by Skunk Anansie. The reviewer did, however, remark specific tracks like "Death To The Lovers" that was reminiscent of early songs like "Hedonism", and "Without You" as typical Skunk Anansie songs. '' Drowned in Sound'' wrote that the album skipped from genre to genre "in a fairly risk-free, but comfortably accomplished way". With ''Anarchytecture'', Skunk Anansie knew how "to produce the best possible version of themselves". The reviewer for ''Gigwise'' criticised that after 20 years, Skunk Anansie's origi ...

Stoosh
''Stoosh'' is the second studio album by British rock band Skunk Anansie, released on 7 October 1996. Critical reception In July 1997, '' CMJ New Music'' described their sound on this album as "sludgy retro metal", and compared them to Faith No More and New Model Army. AllMusic's Tom Demalon retrospectively stated: "Skunk Anansie's full-frontal charge can be wearing at times, but for a good dose of aggressive, hard rock with better-than-average lyrics, ''Stoosh'' succeeds more than it fails." Tom Sinclair of ''Entertainment Weekly'' wrote that the record "finds Skunk Anansie trading their debut's polite Pat Benatar-ish rock for a bigger, more confrontational sound that flirts with metallic overkill even as it embraces folk and pop", adding that "they've toughened up with ''Stoosh''." In 2005, ''Stoosh'' was ranked number 367 in '' Rock Hard'' magazine's book ''The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time''. In 2020, PopMatters's Enio Chiola featured the record on its l ...
