The Outsider (A Perfect Circle Song)
"The Outsider" is a song from A Perfect Circle's second album, ''Thirteenth Step''. It was the album's second single, following "Weak and Powerless", and charted on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard's'' Hot 100, Mainstream Rock Tracks, Mainstream Rock, and Modern Rock Tracks, Modern Rock charts in 2003. Background It uses a 6/8 and 4/4 time signature. Two remixes of "The Outsider" were made for ''aMOTION''. James Iha made the "Frosted Yogurt mix", which uses a much more toned-down, quiet, synthesized sound than the original. Danny Lohner's "Apocalypse Mix" is a darker, heavier version that starts as an ambient doomscape and ends in a way that resembles a music-playback program crashing. A Perfect Circle is an American Rock music, rock Supergroup (music), supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool (band), Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. A Perfect Circle released three of their four studio albums in the early 2000s: their debut ''Mer de Noms'' in 2000, a follow-up, ''Thirteenth Step'' in 2003; and an album of radically re-worked cover songs, ''Emotive (album), Emotive'', in 2004. Shortly after ''Emotive''s release, the band went on hiatus; Keenan returned to Tool and started up solo work under the band name Puscifer, while Howerdel released a solo album, ''Keep Telling Myself It's Alright'', under the moniker Ashes Divide. James Iha
(born March 26, 1968) is an American rock musician. He is best known as a guitarist and co-founder of the alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. He was a member until the band's initial breakup in 2000 and rejoined in 2018. Iha has also produced songs, contributed guitar, keyboards and vocals and produced remixes for a number of artists, including Midnight Movies, Isobel Campbell, Marilyn Manson, Whiskeytown, Scott Weiland and Michael Stipe. Among his other musical projects, Iha has been a permanent fixture of supergroup A Perfect Circle since 2003. He was also a member of Tinted Windows (band), Tinted Windows, a group with members of Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, and Hanson (band), Hanson.
