The Only One (Transvision Vamp Song)
"The Only One" was the second single to be taken from Transvision Vamp's second studio album ''Velveteen''. It was a UK Top 20 hit in 1989 and peaked at #15, spending a total of six weeks on the chart. The sleeve design was similar to that of the previous single "Baby I Don't Care", this time featuring the band against a panelled backdrop printed with a large photo of Marilyn Monroe. Critical reception Eleanor Levy left positive review on this single for British music newspaper ''Record Mirror''. She called it "messy pop rock'n'roll" with "feisty little tune". ''New Musical Express reviewer Barry Egan also liked "The Only One". He considered that it lacks immediate attraction of "Baby I Don't Care" but, in time, listeners will learn "to stop worrying and love it". Transvision Vamp were a British pop rock band. Formed in 1986 by Nick Christian Sayer and Wendy James, the band enjoyed chart success in the late 1980s, particularly in 1989. James, the lead singer and focal-point of the group, attracted media attention with her sexually charged and rebellious image. The band had 10 UK chart hits and also enjoyed considerable success in Australia. Transvision Vamp's top single was 1989's "Baby I Don't Care", which reached number three in the UK and Australian charts. Anthony Doughty
Anthony "Tex" Doughty (born 13 July 1960 in Crawley, Sussex, England) is an English rock musician. He was a member of a number of punk bands in the late 1970s, including Peroxide Romance, The Outpatients and The Moors Murderers. In 1986, he and Dave Parsons joined fellow musicians Wendy James and Nick Sayer to form Transvision Vamp in which he adopted the pseudonym Tex Axile (a pun on tax exile). After they split up, Doughty joined a band called Max with Matthew Ashman, Kevin Mooney, John Reynolds and John Keogh in which he played keyboards. They released a Trevor Horn produced album, ''Silence Running'' in 1992. Keogh died soon after the release, and Ashman followed a couple of years later. David Parsons (born 2 July 1966) is a retired British rock musician who is best known as the original bassist for the grunge band Bush. Before joining Bush, was a member of punk band The Partisans and alternative rock band Transvision Vamp. Parsons met up in 1992 with lead singer and guitarist Gavin Rossdale, guitarist Nigel Pulsford and drummer Robin Goodridge to form Bush. He stayed with the band until their breakup in 2002. When Bush reformed in 2010, Parsons decided not to rejoin. Personal life Parsons has been in a relationship with girlfriend Sarah Chope since 1994. Bob Stanley (born Robert Andrew Shukman; 25 December 1964) is a British musician, journalist, author, and film producer.
