The Old New Me
''The Old New Me'' is the debut album by the American musician and former Replacement Slim Dunlap, released in 1993. Dunlap promoted the album by opening for Dramarama on a North American tour. Production The album was produced by Peter Jesperson and Brian Paulson. It was recorded over four nights, for less than $5,000. Chan Poling and Paul Westerberg contributed to ''The Old New Me''. Dunlap wrote 10 of the album's 11 songs, closing with a cover of James Burton's "Love Lost". "The Ballad of the Opening Band" was inspired by the Replacements' experience opening for Tom Petty on his ''Full Moon Fever'' tour. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote: "Singing ''Exile''-era Stones melodies in a pleasantly artless voice that could pass for Keith Richards on a good night, Dunlap chugs back raunch-a-roll energy with earnest effort and an invigorating dose of retro flair." Slim Dunlap
Robert Bruce "Slim" Dunlap (August 14, 1951 – December 18, 2024) was an American rock musician. He was a Minnesota-based guitarist and singer-songwriter who was best known as a member of the Replacements from 1987 to 1991, replacing original lead guitarist Bob Stinson. Dunlap also recorded two solo albums in the mid-1990s. Dunlap was influenced by Hank Williams and Keith Richards, and had been called "one of the last old-school cool guitar players". Ralph Heibutzki at AllMusic said that he "epitomizes the journeyman musician who plays for the fun of it, when his day gig allows". His solo albums earned praise from Bruce Springsteen, who called them "really, deeply soulful and beautiful." Minneapolis music writer Jim Walsh called Dunlap "the epitome of constraint.
