''The Old Code'' is a 1928 American silent film, silent historical film, historical drama film directed by Ben F. Melbourne MacDowell
Willet Melbourne MacDowell (November 22, 1856 – February 18, 1941) was an American stage and screen actor. He was the second husband of famed stage actress Fanny Davenport. He began on the legitimate stage in the 1870s and first appeared on the silent screen in 1917. Biography Willet Melbourne MacDowell was born in Little Washington, New Jersey (now South River, New Jersey). He had an older brother named E. A. MacDowell, who was the father of future actress Claire McDowell. As a teen Melbourne went to sea in the Merchant Marines, eventually becoming a mate. Back in the US he had his first acting experience in Montreal at a theatre where he was a ticket seller, assistant doorkeeper and where his brother was employed as an actor. Rhody Hathaway (1868–1944; né Marquis Henry Rudolph de Fiennes), was an American film actor, and a Belgian marquess. He also worked as an advance man, and stage manager. Hathaway worked both in silent films and talkies. Early life Rhody Hathaway was born as Henry Rudolph de Fiennes on October 5, 1868, in San Francisco, California. His father Henry J. de Fiennes was born in Belgium and his mother Mary Hanson was from the East Coast. His title of Marquis was inherited from his grandfather Jean-Baptiste de Fiennes (or J.B. de Fiennes), a Belgian nobleman and barrister in service to King Leopold I of Belgium. When his grandfather failed in his commission to establish commercial relations between the Sandwich Islands (now Hawai'i) with Belgium, the disgraced Marquis self-exiled to San Francisco in 1850 where he worked as a lawyer.
