The Naked Jungle
''The Naked Jungle'' is a 1954 American adventure film directed by Byron Haskin, and starring Charlton Heston and Eleanor Parker. Telling the story of an attack of army ants on a Brazilian cocoa plantation, it was based on the 1937 short story " Leiningen Versus the Ants" by Carl Stephenson. Plot In 1901, Joanna Selby is on her way from New Orleans to a South American cocoa plantation to meet her new husband, who she married by proxy, plantation owner Christopher Leiningen. On a boat up the river to the Leiningen plantation, Joanna meets the local Commissioner, who informs her that he is aware of her circumstances, having stood in for her as the bride during the proxy ceremony. When Joanna asks him to tell her about her new husband, the Commissioner responds that in a month's time she will be able to tell him more than he knows now. Naked Jungle
''Naked Jungle'' is a one-off television game show produced for the United Kingdom terrestrial TV station Channel 5 by Granada Television, airing on 6 June 2000. A gameshow with an assault course format, based on and using the same set as the children's show ''Jungle Run'', it was controversial because its contestants were nudists. The programme's presenter, Keith Chegwin, was also naked, except for a hat. It was part of a special season of programmes on the channel to mark the 50th anniversary of British naturism. A video of ''Naked Jungle'' was released by Playback in late 2000. It was rated "15" by the British Board of Film Classification. John Dierkes
John Dierkes (February 10, 1905 – January 8, 1975) was an American actor who appeared in a number of classic Hollywood films. Before becoming an actor, he had been an economist. Life and career Dierkes was born on February 10, 1905, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Brown University and subsequently went to work as an economist for the United States Department of State. In 1941 he joined the Red Cross and served in Britain during World War II. There he met director John Huston who recommended that he try Hollywood after the war. The name army ant (or legionary ant or ''marabunta'') is applied to over 200 ant species in different lineages. Because of their aggressive predatory foraging groups, known as "raids", a huge number of ants forage simultaneously over a limited area. Another shared feature is that, unlike most ant species, army ants do not construct permanent nests; an army ant colony moves almost incessantly over the time it exists. All species are members of the true ant family, Formicidae, but several groups have independently evolved the same basic behavioural and ecological syndrome.
