"The Missing Piece" is a song by Swedish singer and songwriter Paul Rey. The song was released on 6 February 2021 through 20/20 Records and Warner Music Sweden. It was written by Paul Rey, Fredrik Sonefors and Laurell Barker, produced by Sonefors, Rey, Gabriel Runemark, and Theo Kylin. It was performed for the first time in Melodifestivalen 2021 and made it to the Second Chance round. Background and composition Rey called the song as a journey and described that the track started "intimately and steadily grew". In an interview with ''escXtra'', Rey revealed that "The Missing Piece" was dedicated to his daughter. Pauli Jokela better known as Paul Rey (born 23 May 1992, in Lund) is a Swedish singer and songwriter. Formerly known as PJ, Rey started his musical career as a rapper, and made his debut as a pop singer in 2015, releasing his debut extended play, ''Good as Hell'' in the United States through Epic Records. He gained public attention when he participated in Melodifestivalen 2020 with his entry, " Talking in My Sleep" (2020), which earned him a sixth place. Laurell Barker (born April 20, 1979), also known mononymously as Laurell, is a Canadian singer and songwriter currently residing in Malmö, Sweden. Melodifestivalen 2021 was the 61st edition of the Swedish music competition Melodifestivalen. The competition was organised by Sveriges Television (SVT) and took place over a six-week period between 6 February and 13 March 2021. Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, all shows of this edition took place in the Annexet in Stockholm, and without an audience. The winner of the competition was Tusse with the song " Voices", who represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where he came fourteenth with 109 points.
