The Meadow, Downpatrick
The Meadow is a cricket ground in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. It is the home of Downpatrick Cricket Club. In 1983, the ground hosted what is the only first-class match to be played there when Ireland played Scotland, which resulted in an Irish victory by 5 wickets. In 1990, the ground hosted its first List A match when Ireland played Sussex in the NatWest Trophy. The ground hosted a further List A match in the 1997 Benson & Hedges Cup between Ireland and Essex, before hosting two List A matches in the 2005 ICC Trophy. The first of these saw the UAE play the United States, which resulted in a 55 run victory for the UAE. Downpatrick
Downpatrick () is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on the Lecale peninsula, about south of Belfast. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Dál Fiatach, the main ruling dynasty of Ulaid. Down Cathedral, Its cathedral is said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick. Today, it is the county town of Down and the joint headquarters of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. The 1997 Benson & Hedges Cup was the twenty-sixth edition of cricket's Benson & Hedges Cup. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 28 April and 12 July 1997. Cricket Grounds In Northern Ireland
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field, at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails (small sticks) balanced on three stumps. Two players from the batting team, the striker and nonstriker, stand in front of either wicket holding bats, while one player from the fielding team, the bowler, bowls the ball toward the striker's wicket from the opposite end of the pitch. The striker's goal is to hit the bowled ball with the bat and then switch places with the nonstriker, with the batting team scoring one run for each of these swaps. Essex County Cricket Club
Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Founded in 1876, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. The 1990 NatWest Trophy was the 10th NatWest Trophy. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 27 June and 1 September 1990. The tournament was won by Lancashire who defeated Northamptonshire by 7 wickets in the final at Lord's.
