''The Local Rag'' is a monthly alternative newspaper published in Red Lodge, Montana, Red Lodge, Montana. It focuses on local content, as the name implies, and is shipped free to every mailing address in Red Lodge and the surrounding towns of Bearcreek, Fox, Roberts, Luther, and Washoe. ''The Local Rag'' is funded by advertising. Circulation varies depending on time of year. A typical press run is 3,600 to 4,600 copies. In addition to the mailed copies, it is also distributed in stores, bars, and restaurants in Red Lodge. The paper was founded in 1991 by Lou Ward, former owner of the Jemez Valley Voice in New Mexico. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. Gerald Malke (5 December 1963 – 1 September 2016), known professionally as Gary D, was a German trance/hardstyle producer and DJ, known for the trance compilations ''D.Trance''. Career Early career Gary D. started out playing as a DJ at the age of 16 in 1980. In his first years, he mostly played Black Music. It wasn't until 1988 when Gary D. started to get more involved with electronic such as, Techno and House, which in the same year he released his first single "Ecstasy" under alias "Acid Syndrome". Red Lodge, Montana
Red Lodge is a city and county seat of Carbon County, Montana, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,257. History On September 17, 1851, the United States government signed a treaty with the Crow Nation, ceding the area which now contains Red Lodge, MT to the Crow Indians. Rich coal deposits were found there in 1866, and gold was discovered nearby in 1870. An 1880 treaty between the U.S. government and the Crow allowed the area to be settled starting April 11, 1882. The Red Lodge post office was established on Dec 9, 1884 with Postmaster Ezra L. Benton. A rail line was constructed into town, and coal shipments began in June 1889. The boundaries of the Crow Reservation were redrawn October 15, 1892, opening the whole area to settlement. From then until the 1930s, coal mining defined the town.
