The Little French Girl
''The Little French Girl'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Herbert Brenon and written by John Russell and Anne Douglas Sedgwick from a 1924 novel by Sedgwick. The film stars Mary Brian, Maurice de Canonge, Paul Doucet, Maude Turner Gordon, Neil Hamilton, Julia Hurley, and Jane Jennings. The film was released on May 31, 1925, by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Madame Vervier, a sophisticated woman, sends her daughter Alix to live with Owen Bradley's parents in London. Madame is ashamed of the life she has led in Paris. Owen is in the midst of a flirtation with her despite his family's feelings and his having a fiancée. After Owen's death, Alix learns of the reputation her mother has, and tries to keep Toppie, Owen's fiancée, from joining a convent. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “ auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Among his most notable films are Neptune's Daughter (1914), Peter Pan (1925), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and the original film version of Beau Geste (1926). ''The Little Irish Girl'' is a 1926 American silent romantic drama film produced and distributed by Warner Bros., directed by Roy Del Ruth and starring Dolores Costello. Based on the story ''The Grifters'', written by Edith Joan Lyttleton, it is considered to be a lost film. Cast Preservation This film is now lost. The Warner Bros. records of the film's negative have a notation, "Junked 12/27/48" (i.e., December 27, 1948). Warner Bros. destroyed many of its negatives in the late 1940s and 1950s due to nitrate film pre-1933 decomposition. Also, in February 1956, Jack Warner sold the rights to all of his pre-December 1949 films to Associated Artists Productions. In 1969, UA donated 16mm prints of some Warner Bros. films from outside the United States. No copies of ''The Little Irish Girl'' are known to exist.
