''The Light Thief'' ( ky, Свет-аке, ''Svet-Ake'') is a 2010 Kyrgyz drama film directed by Aktan Arym Kubat. The film was Kyrgyzstan's submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 83rd Academy Awards, but did not make the final shortlist. Aktan Arym Kubat (; born March 26, 1957, Sokuluk District, Kyrgyzstan), also known as Aktan Abdykalykov, is a Kyrgyzstani director, screenwriter and actor. Member of the National Film Academy of the Kyrgyzstan, acting Member of the European Film Academy, acting Member of Asia Pacific Screen Academy. This is a list of submissions to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The deadline for all countries to send in their submissions was 1 October 2010. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2009, and 30 September 2010. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland.
