The Last Illusion
''The Last Illusion'' () is a 1949 German drama film directed by Josef von Báky and starring Fritz Kortner, Johanna Hofer and Lina Carstens.Hake p. 103 It was entered into the 1949 Cannes Film Festival. It was shot at the Bavaria Studios in Munich. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Fritz Lück, Fritz Maurischat and Hans Sohnle. Synopsis A Jewish university professor returns from exile following the end of the Second World War. His hopes of rebuilding a new Germany are undermined by the continuing antisemitism of his colleagues and students. Josef von Báky (23 March 1902, Sombor, Zombor, Austria-Hungary – 28 July 1966, Munich, West Germany) was a Hungarian filmmaker. He was also known as ''Josef v. Baky'' and ''József Báky''. Angelika Schrobsdorff (24 December 1927 – 30 July 2016) was a German author. Hans Clarin (14 September 1929 – 28 August 2005) was a German actor. Friedrich Domin (15 May 1902 – 18 December 1961) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1939 and 1961. He was born in Beuthen, Germany (now Bytom, Poland) and died in Munich, West Germany. In 1922, he graduated from the Max Reinhardt's drama school, now known as Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. Ernst Schröder (actor)
Ernst Schröder (27 January 1915 – 26 July 1994) was a popular German theatre, film and TV actor. Life Born in Herne, Schröder began his acting career at the nearby Bochum Theatre in 1934, under the director Saladin Schmitt. He worked there until 1936, also working as assistant director and Stage Designer. After working at Bielefeld and Wuppertal, he moved to the Schiller Theatre in Berlin in 1938, which became his artistic home and the location of his greatest triumphs, particularly after the Second World War. During the war he served briefly in the army, was wounded, and returned to the Schiller Theatre in 1942. When in 1944 the theatre was closed, he returned to serve in the army, and ended the war in Italy as a prisoner. He returned to the theatre in 1946 and rapidly re-established his reputation.
