The Land Is Ours (film)
''The Land Is Ours'' (Hungarian: ''Felszabadult föld'') is a 1951 Hungarian drama film directed by Frigyes Bán and starring Ádám Szirtes, Ági Mészáros and Ilona Egri. Homoródy p.173 It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director József Pán. It was a sequel to the 1948 film ''Treasured Earth''. Synopsis In 1944 following the German invasion of Hungary (1944), German Occupation Jóska is imprisoned in Szeged where he becomes a communist. Following the Battle of Debrecen, arrival of the Soviets he is freed he returns to his village and with his wife Marika plans to improve life for the farmers in defiance of the old ruling class of the area. German Invasion Of Hungary (1944)
In March 1944, Hungary was occupied by the Wehrmacht. This invasion was formally known as Operation Margarethe (Unternehmen Margarethe). Course of events Hungarian Prime Minister Miklós Kállay, who had been in office from 1942, had the knowledge and the approval of Hungarian Regent Miklós Horthy to secretly seek negotiations for a separate peace with the Allies in early 1944. Hitler wanted to prevent the Hungarians from deserting Germany. On 12 March 1944, German troops received orders by Hitler to capture critical Hungarian facilities. Hitler invited Horthy to the Palace of Klessheim, near Salzburg. On the evening of 15 March 1944, when Admiral Horthy was watching a performance of the opera ''Petofi'', he received an urgent message from the German Embassy minister Dietrich von Jagow, which stated that he had to see Horthy immediately at the German legation. János Görbe born as Görbe János (November 12, 1912, Jászárokszállás - September 5, 1968, Budapest) was a prominent Hungarian actor of film and theater.
