The Kingkiller Chronicle
''The Kingkiller Chronicle'' is a planned fantasy trilogy by the American writer Patrick Rothfuss. The first two books, '' The Name of the Wind'' and '' The Wise Man's Fear'', were released in 2007 and 2011. The books released in the series have sold over 10 million copies. The series centers on a man named Kvothe, an infamous adventurer and musician telling his life story to a scribe. The book is told in a " story-within-a-story" format: a frame narrative relates the present day in which Kvothe runs an inn under an assumed name and is told in omniscient third person. The main plot, making up the majority of the books and concerning the actual details of Kvothe's life, is told in the first person. ''The Name of the Wind'', also referred to as ''The Kingkiller Chronicle: Day One'', is a heroic fantasy novel written by American author Patrick Rothfuss. It is the first book in the ongoing fantasy trilogy ''The Kingkiller Chronicle'', followed by ''The Wise Man's Fear''. It was published on March 27, 2007, by DAW Books. Writing history Rothfuss wrote ''The Name of the Wind'' while working on his Bachelor of Arts in English. ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' ( , ) is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand. The play includes elements of the life of the 17th-century novelist and playwright Cyrano de Bergerac, along with elements of invention and myth. The entire play is written in verse, in rhyming couplets of twelve syllables per line, very close to the French alexandrine, classical alexandrine form, but the verses sometimes lack a caesura. It is also meticulously researched, down to the names of the members of the Académie française and the Précieuses, ''dames précieuses'' glimpsed before the performance in the first scene. The play has been translated and performed many times, and it is responsible for introducing the word ''panache'' into the English language. Gardner Raymond Dozois ( ; July 23, 1947 – May 27, 2018) was an American science fiction author and editor. He was the founding editor of '' The Year's Best Science Fiction'' anthologies (1984–2018) and was editor of '' Asimov's Science Fiction'' (1986–2004), garnering multiple Hugo and Locus Awards for those works almost every year. He also won the Nebula Award for Best Short Story twice. He was inducted to the Science Fiction Hall of Fame on June 25, 2011. Biography Dozois was born July 23, 1947, in Salem, Massachusetts. ''Unfettered'' is a fantasy anthology edited by Shawn Speakman, featuring 23 short stories contributed by various best-selling authors in the fantasy genre. The book was released on 21 June 2013 by Grim Oak Press. The artwork for the book was done by Todd Lockwood. On 4 May 2015, Speakman announced the release of ''Unfettered II'', with short stories from at least 15 best-selling fantasy and science-fiction authors. ''SF Signal'' was a science fiction blog and fanzine published from 2003 to 2016. The site was launched by John DeNardo and JP Frantz and focused on writings, events, and other topics focusing on the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and other related genres. Writers and Illustrators of the Future is a science fiction and fantasy story and art contest that was established by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 as Writers of the Future. A sister contest, Illustrators of the Future, was launched in 1988 and presents awards for science fiction art.
