''The King'' is a 2019 epic historical drama film directed by David Michôd, based on several plays from William Shakespeare's Henriad. David Michôd
David Michôd ( ;) is an Australian film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. He is best known for directing the critically acclaimed crime drama '' Animal Kingdom'' (2010) and dystopian drama '' The Rover'' (2014). He also co-wrote '' Hesher'' (2010). Education and early career Michôd was educated at Sydney Grammar School before moving to Melbourne to study arts at the University of Melbourne. Thomas of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence (c. autumn 1387 – 22 March 1421) was a medieval English prince and soldier, the second son of Henry IV of England, brother of Henry V, and heir to the throne in the event of his brother's death. Prince Hal is the standard term used in literary criticism to refer to Shakespeare's portrayal of the young Henry V of England as a prince before his accession to the throne, taken from the diminutive form of his name used in the plays almost exclusively by Falstaff. Henry is called "Prince Hal" in critical commentary on his character in ''Henry IV, Part 1'' and '' Henry IV, Part 2'', though also sometimes in '' Henry V'' when discussed in the context of the wider Henriad. In Shakespearean scholarship, the Henriad refers to a group of William Shakespeare's Shakespearean history, history plays depicting the rise of the English kings. It is sometimes used to refer to a group of four plays (a tetralogy), but some sources and scholars use the term to refer to eight plays.
