The Joy (band)
The Joy are an a cappella group from South Africa. Their debut album '' The Joy'' was released on 21 June 2024 on Transgressive Records. History The Joy was formed by five members of a school choir in the township of Hammarsdale. In November 2022 The Joy performed at the Hammersmith Apollo in London as part of Jools Holland's "30th Birthday Bash" special, and in December they sung on ''The Jennifer Hudson Show''. The Joy released an EP called ''Hammarsdale'' in August 2023 on Transgressive Records. '' Clash'' described lead single "Mountain" as "a beautiful experience, with its transportive impact sending you half-way across the world to South Africa." In April 2024 they performed with Doja Cat at Coachella, and in May she released three collaborative tracks with them. On 21 June 2024 The Joy released their eponymous debut album, which was recorded live at the Church Studios in London. Hammarsdale
Mpumalanga, also widely known as Hammarsdale, is a township located in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It is situated some 10 km south-south-east of Cato Ridge and some 50 km west of Durban. Derived from Zulu, the name means 'sunrise', 'the sun comes out'. The township boasts of a local library known as Mpumalanga Library and a shopping center which has become the heart of the township known as the Hammarsdale Junction. There is a local stadium and an Elangeni College campus located in the heart of Mpumalanga. Among amenities such as clinics, police stations, a SASSA and a home affairs office, the township has a variety of schools, some of which are mentioned below. Coachella 2024 was a music festival that took place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California on 12–14 and 19–21 April 2024. The headliners for the festival were Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat. Background The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, sometimes referred to as "Coachella Festival" or simply "Coachella," is held annually at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, the event features musical artists from many genres of music, including rock, pop, indie, hip hop and electronic dance music, as well as art installations and sculptures. Isicathamiya
Isicathamiya (, where the ''c'' represents a tenuis dental click) is a singing style that originated from the Zulu people, a South African ethnic group. In European understanding, a cappella is also used to describe this form of singing. The word itself does not have a literal translation; it is derived from the Zulu verb , which means 'walking softly', or 'tread carefully'. Isicathamiya contrasts with an earlier name for Zulu a cappella singing, mbube, meaning 'lion'. The change in name marks a transition in the style of the music: traditionally, music described as mbube is sung loudly and powerfully, while isicathamiya focuses more on achieving a harmonious blend between the voices. The Church Studios is a recording studio located in a former church in Crouch End, North London, England. It was rented and then owned by Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Dave Stewart in the 1980s and 1990s, and was used to record Eurythmics' second album ''Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (album), Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)'' (1983).
