''The Journey to Planet POD'' is the debut studio album by Perceptual Outer Dimensions, released on August 1, 1994 by Fifth Colvmn Records. Music Prior to the release of ''The Journey to Planet POD'', composer Holmes Ives had released "Hinge" and "Lurid Dance of the Erimite" on the 1994 Fifth Colvmn Records compilation '' Frenzied Computer Resonance''. Reception '' Option'' described ''The Journey to Planet POD'' as "a unique ambient project that mixes elements of "found" sounds into an intricate web that borders on rapture." Sonic Boom praised the album for its "invigorating programming style, unique percussion, and vivid samples" and called it "a trip to another planet, someplace where the listener needs to never stop moving to the music, and the dj never stops mixing up a new track." Perceptual Outer Dimensions
Perceptual Outer Dimensions was the music project of Washington, D.C.–based composer Holmes Ives. Under this moniker, Ives released two albums for Fifth Colvmn Records, 1994's '' The Journey to Planet POD'' and 1995's ''Euphonia''. History Perceptual Outer Dimensions was founded in 1994 out of Virginia as a solo outlet for Ives. He recorded the compositions "Hinge" and "Lurid Dance of the Erimite" and released them on the 1994 Fifth Colvmn Records compilation '' Frenzied Computer Resonance''. Still opting to release with Fifth Colvmn, he debuted a full-length studio album titled '' The Journey to Planet POD'' for the label in 1995. Perceptual Outer Dimensions released its second studio album for Fifth Colvmn in 1995 titled ''Euphonia''. The same year the track "De La Luna" was released for the ''Forced Cranial Removal'' compilation. He recorded the new composition "Surya" and it was released on ''Echo'' in 1996. Zalman Fishman
Fifth Colvmn Records was a record label based in Washington, D.C. The label was founded in 1990 by Zalman Fishman, owner of the nightclub FIFTH COLVMN, located in Washington D.C. The label's first release was Chemlab's debut EP Ten Ton Pressure. Jared Hendrickson of Chemlab also became the general manager for the label. Chemlab later played several dates with Nine Inch Nails, eventually attracting a distribution deal for their next release, Burn Out at the Hydrogen Bar, with Metal Blade Records. The band Thud was the next artist to join the label. Heavy, loud and unrelenting, Thud became very popular amongst Metal fans and critics alike luring Eli Janney from Girls Against Boys to contribute to their debut record Life & Death and earning co-headlining performances with Stone Temple Pilots.
