The Harrogate Club
The Harrogate Club is a private members' club, open to men and women, based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1857, it is located on Victoria Avenue, Harrogate. History The club was founded at the Gascoigne’s Hotel, Harrogate in 1857 by a group of professional men. In 1885 the Club’s Committee, with funds raised from the members, decided to construct a Club House, at an ultimate cost of £3,000 (). The ''Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale Herald'' reported that plans were approved by Harrogate Borough Council on 2 April 1885, and the Borough Surveyor certified the building on 17 April 1886, however the architect's name was not given. Since the plans were later found in possession of the architectural firm which was in the 1880s owned by architect Arthur Bown (1851–1916), of Harrogate, it has been concluded that Bown designed the building. Liverpool Athenaeum
The Athenaeum is a private members club in Liverpool, England. The club was founded to ensure the up-to-date provision of newspapers and pamphlets, and to create a library for the use of the merchants and professional men in the city. The original building was demolished, and replaced by a new building nearby, in 1924. The members of the club are known as Proprietors, because they subscribe to a share, and they include both men and women. The building contains a large library, and it is also used by the Proprietors for social functions. It can be hired for use by outside individuals and organisations. ''Who Do You Think You Are?'' is a British genealogy documentary series that has aired on the BBC since 2004, in which celebrity participants trace their family history. It is made by the production company Wall to Wall. The programme has regularly attracted an audience of more than 6 million viewers. Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a British writer and physician. Rand Club
The Rand Club is a private members' club in Johannesburg, South Africa, founded in October 1887. The current (third) clubhouse was designed by architects Leck & Emley in 1902 and its construction completed in 1904. Cecil John Rhodes helped to select the location. The Royal Scots Club Edinburgh is a private members' club located at 29-31 Abercromby Street, Edinburgh, EH3 6QE Scotland.
