The Groovesmiths
The Groovesmiths are an Australian roots-music band, founded by Gavin Shoesmith, former bass guitarist from John Butler Trio. Originally located in Darwin, Northern Territory, Shoesmith relocated to Fremantle, Western Australia, Fremantle. The band is recognized for its unique style and live performances, blending strong elements of Reggae, Jazz, and Hip-Hop into traditional Blues and Roots music. The Groovesmiths released a debut five-track extended play, ''Demonstrations of Intent'', in 2006. It featured guests, John Butler (musician), John Butler and Saritah. In November 2007 the Groovesmiths with Shoesmith on lead vocals, bass guitar, lap steel bass and harmonica; Alex Dew on lead guitar; and Matt Wright on drums performed at the Blues at Bridgetown, Western Australia, Bridgetown festival. MGM Distribution (Metropolitan Groove Merchants) is the largest independent distributor of Australian music and music related merchandise. It was established in April 1998 by Sebastian Chase. MGM Distribution was set up specifically as a distribution hub to service independent labels and artists. MGM Distribution is focused on a specific agenda – dealing with retail, promoting its releases to retail, ensuring that orders are filled correctly and dispatched expediently. MGM is not a label and does not sign artists. As a distributor, MGM requires that the labels market their releases to the media to create demand that causes sell through at retail. Gavin Shoesmith
Gavin Dominic Shoesmith is an Australian singer, songwriter, double bassist and bass guitarist. He was a founding member of the John Butler Trio, from 1998 to 2001. In 2004 he formed a roots music group, the Groovesmiths. Biography In the early 1990s Shoesmith was a member of Moustache 750 on double bass, contrabass and acoustic bass guitar. In 1995 he formed Woodcave as a jam band, which later included John Butler on lead vocals and guitar. Note: n-lineversion was expanded from the 2002 edition. Shoesmith, Butler and Jason McGann on drums formed John Butler Trio as a roots music and jam band. In 2001 Shoesmith, on double bass, formed an organic dance music band, Katamaran, based in Darwin. John Butler Trio
The John Butler Trio were an Australian Folk music, roots-Rock music, rock band led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler (musician), John Butler, an Australasian Performing Right Association, APRA and ARIA-award-winning musician. They formed in Fremantle in 1998 with Jason McGann on drums, Gavin Shoesmith on bass and John Butler (musician), John Butler on vocals. By 2009, the trio consisted of Butler with Byron Luiters on bass and Nicky Bomba on drums and percussion, the latter being replaced by Grant Gerathy in 2013. After both Luiters and Gerathy exited the trio in early 2019, bassist OJ Newcomb and drummer Terepai Richmond (also of The Whitlams) joined the band, accompanied by touring musician Elana Stone on keyboards, percussion and backing vocals. John Charles Wiltshire-Butler (born 1 April 1975), professionally known as John Butler, is an American-Australian singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is best known for his time as the eponymous frontman of the John Butler Trio, a roots and jam band that formed in Perth Fremantle, Western Australia in 1998. Saritah is an Australian-based singer-songwriter and musician. Bridgetown is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, approximately south of Perth on the Blackwood River at the intersection of South Western Highway with Brockman Highway to Nannup and Augusta. History The area was originally known as Geegelup, which was believed to mean "place of gilgies" in the Noongar language, referring to the fresh water lobster that inhabits the area.
