''The Grinding Wheel'' is the eighteenth studio album by thrash metal band Overkill, released on February 10, 2017. It is the last Overkill album with drummer Ron Lipnicki, who left the band shortly after its release and was replaced by Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall and formerly of Flotsam and Jetsam) for the album's tour and its follow-up '' The Wings of War'' (2019). Production Vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth said about the album's style: "At the end of the day Overkill is Overkill. Our trademark is that we are always recognizable on every release. For the three decades we have been around we were always Overkill. So sure it is a metal record and like always it will have sort of a thrash vibe to it with some melody in it. Overkill (band)
Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist D.D. Verni and lead vocalist Bobby Ellsworth, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth as the only remaining original members. The band's current lineup includes Verni, Ellsworth, Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Derek "The Skull" Tailer on rhythm guitar, and Jeramie Kling as a touring drummer. Along with Nuclear Assault and Anthrax (American band), Anthrax, the latter of whom would feature one-time Overkill lead guitarist Dan Spitz, the band is one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands, and they are often called "the Motörhead of thrash metal", due to their unique playing style, which was influenced by punk rock and the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM). Thin Lizzy are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. The band initially consisted of bass guitarist, lead vocalist and principal songwriter Phil Lynott, drummer Brian Downey, guitarist Eric Bell and organist Eric Wrixon although Wrixon left after a few months. Bell left at the end of 1973 and was briefly replaced by Gary Moore, who himself was replaced in mid-1974 by twin lead guitarists: Scott Gorham, who remained with the band until their break-up in 1983, and Brian Robertson, who remained with the band until 1978 when Moore re-joined. It was released on July 18, 2014 in Europe through Nuclear Blast and July 22 in North America through eOne Music. Reception and sales ''White Devil Armory'' has received mostly positive reviews. The new wave of British heavy metal (often abbreviated as NWOBHM) was a nationwide musical movement that began in England in the mid-1970s and achieved international attention by the early 1980s. Editor Alan Lewis (music journalist), Alan Lewis coined the term for an article by Geoff Barton in a May 1979 issue of the British music newspaper ''Sounds (magazine), Sounds'' to describe the emergence of heavy metal music, heavy metal bands in the mid-to-late 1970s, as punk rock declined amid the dominance of new wave music.
