The Great Divide (1929 Film)
''The Great Divide'' is a 1929 American sound ( All-Talking) pre-Code Western film directed by Reginald Barker and starring Dorothy Mackaill. Released in both silent and sound versions, it was produced and distributed by First National Pictures. The film is a remake of '' The Great Divide'', made at MGM in 1925 and also directed by Barker. There was another remake in 1931 as the full sound film '' Woman Hungry''. All three films are based on the 1906 Broadway play ''The Great Divide'' by William Vaughn Moody. A print of the film is preserved at the Library of Congress. Parts of the film were shot in Zion National Park in Utah. Plot Stephen Ghent, a mine owner, falls in love with Ruth Jordan, an arrogant girl from the East, unaware that she is the daughter of his dead partner. Reginald Barker
Reginald C. Barker (April 2, 1886 – February 23, 1945) was a pioneer film director. Biography Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Barker's family moved to Scotland when he was an infant and then to the United States. Living in California, Barker wrote, produced, and acted in his first play known as ''Granna Uile'' at the age of sixteen following which he acted and handled stage manager duties with a traveling stock company (acting), stock company. When he was eighteen he was the leading man and played in many stock companies. Then he worked with Robert C. Ian Keith (born Keith Ross; February 27, 1899 – March 26, 1960) was an American actor. Early years Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Keith grew up in Chicago. Warner Archive Collection
The Warner Archive Collection is a home video division for releasing classic and cult films from Warner Bros.' library. It started as a manufactured-on-demand (MOD) DVD series by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on March 23, 2009, with the intention of putting previously unreleased catalog films on DVD for the first time. In November 2012, Warner expanded the Archive Collection to include Blu-ray releases. Some Warner Archive releases, such as '' Wise Guys'', previously had a pressed DVD release but have lapsed out of print and have since been re-released as part of the Warner Archive collection. Claude Benton Gillingwater (August 2, 1870 – November 1, 1939) was an American stage and screen actor. He first appeared on the stage then in more than 90 films between 1918 and 1939, including the Academy Award-nominated ''A Tale of Two Cities'' (1935) and ''Conquest'' (1937). He appeared in several films starring Shirley Temple, beginning with '' Poor Little Rich Girl'' (1936). Early life Gillingwater was born in Louisiana, Missouri. George Fawcett
George Fawcett (August 25, 1860 – June 6, 1939) was an American stage and film actor of the silent era. Biography Born in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1860, Fawcett graduated from the University of Virginia. His initial inclination was to be an attorney, but he became a Shakespearean actor instead. Fawcett had his own acting troupe, the Fawcett Stock Company. He appeared on stage in such plays as ''Ghosts'' (1905) with Mary Shaw, ''The Squaw Man'' (1905) with William Faversham, ''The Great John Ganton'' (1909) with an up-and-coming actress Laurette Taylor in the cast, and ''Getting a Polish'' (1910) with actress May Irwin.
