The Gift Machine
The Gift Machine is an American band, led by the husband and wife team of Dave Matthies and Andrea Matthies. Originally based in the Pacific Northwest, Dave Matthies has collaborated with many different people and the band has gone through several line up changes over the years. From 1998-2006 he lived in Anacortes, Washington, and ran a recording studio at the now defunct venue, the Department of Safety. He also worked with Bret Lunsford of the low-fi pop band Beat Happening, running KNW-YR-OWN records and putting on the annual What the Heck Fest. Matthies has worked live and in the studio with the Microphones/ Mount Eerie, Little Wings, the Begulls, Karl Blau, D+, LAKE, the Graves, Laura Veirs, Thanksgiving, the Murder City Devils. The band is currently based out of North County San Diego. Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest (sometimes Cascadia, or simply abbreviated as PNW) is a geographic region in western North America bounded by its coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean to the west and, loosely, by the Rocky Mountains to the east. Little Wings
Kyle Field is an American musician who releases material under the moniker Little Wings. Early life Field was born in Alabama in 1972. As a child, his family relocated to Los Angeles, California, where his father worked as a coach for the UCLA Bruins. Career Music Field contributed bass and vocals in the band Rodriguez, along with M. Ward and Mike Funk. In the late 1990s in San Luis Obispo, California, Field formed the band Little Wings, of which he is the only permanent member. In the past, the band has had members Adam Selzer on drums, Rob Kieswetter (aka Bobby Birdman) on keyboards, Mark Leece as bassist and various others. As Little Wings, Field has released over a dozen albums, under the Walking and independent K Records labels. Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records is an American independent record label based in Athens, Georgia. Its catalogue features indie rock, indie pop and hip-hop music, with several of its artists associated with or influenced by The Elephant 6 Recording Company. History The label began as a compilation album, ''Happy Happy Birthday To Me Volume 1'', before it expanded into a 7" singles club, which released records by Of Montreal, Marshmallow Coast, The Essex Green, Great Lakes, and Masters of the Hemisphere, while also releasing several tape and CD compilations. The singles club was noted for its individuality, with each individual record by an artist often being different. For example, each copy of The Essex Green's single came with a different original photograph on the sleeve, while Marshmallow Coast's were hand-drawn by school children. Murder City Devils
The Murder City Devils is an American garage rock band formed in 1996. History The band's original lineup, consisting of Spencer Moody, Dann Gallucci, Derek Fudesco, Coady Willis, and Nate Manny, formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1996. Gabe Kerbrat was their permanent roadie, and was considered a member. Within a year, the band had released two singles, ''Three Natural Sixes'' (Hopscotch Records #5) and ''Dance Hall Music'' (Empty Records MTR-354), and signed with the Die Young Stay Pretty label, a subsidiary of Sub Pop. Laura Veirs
Laura Pauline Veirs (born October 24, 1973) is an American singer-songwriter based out of Portland, Oregon. She is known for her folk/alternative country records and live performances as well as her collaboration with Neko Case and k.d. lang on the case/lang/veirs project. Veirs has written a children's book and hosts a podcast about parenting and performing. Early life and education Veirs graduated from General William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1997, Veirs graduated from Carleton College, where she was a geology major and studied Mandarin Chinese. Mount Eerie
Mount Eerie is the musical project of American songwriter and producer Phil Elverum. Elverum (also of The Microphones) is the principal member of the band, but has collaborated with many other musicians on his records and in live performances. Most of Mount Eerie's releases have been issued on Elverum's label P.W. Elverum & Sun, Ltd., and feature highly detailed packaging with his own artwork. The Microphones
The Microphones are an American indie folk, indie rock, and experimental project from Olympia, Washington. The project was founded in 1996 and ended in 2003, with a short reunion following in 2007 and revivals in 2019 and 2020. Across every iteration of the Microphones, it has been fronted by Phil Elverum. Elverum is the principal songwriter and producer behind the band's albums, but he has also collaborated with other local musicians on his other recordings and tours. Many of Elverum's recordings from the project's initial period were released by the label K Records. Since 2003, Elverum has recorded and performed primarily under the name Mount Eerie.
