''The Fruitless Tree'' (''L'arbre sans fruit'') is a Nigerien bilingual documentary film written and directed by Aïcha Macky on her directorial debut. The documentary project was influenced and inspired by the death of director's own mother who died when the director was only five years old at the time. Aïcha Macky (born 8 January 1982) is a Nigerien filmmaker as well as a sociologist. She is most notable as the director of critically acclaimed documentary '' The Fruitless Tree''. Personal life She was born on 8 January 1982. When she was five years old, her mother died after childbirth. She obtained a Master I grade degree in Audiovisual and Creative Documentary at Institut de Formation aux Techniques de l'Information et de la Communication (Training Institute for Information and Communication Technologies: IFTIC) in Niger and later completed Master II grade degree in Sociology and in Documentary Filmmaking at Gaston Berger University in Sénégal in 2013. The 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony was held on Saturday 11 June 2016 at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The ceremony recognized and honored excellence among directors, actors, and writers in the film industry. The awards night was hosted by Chris Attoh, Mike Ezuruonye and Kgopedi Lilokoe. It aired live on NTA to over 100 million viewers worldwide. As part of the pre-AMAA activities, Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism collaborated with the Africa Film Academy to host a sponsorship night to mobilize corporate sponsors for the awards.
