The Foxy Duckling
''The Foxy Duckling'' is a Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' color cartoon short directed by Arthur Davis. The short was released on August 23, 1947. Plot An insomniac fox is having trouble sleeping, and despite his best efforts (tossing and turning, clamping his eyes shut, etc), he simply cannot fall asleep. He stumbles across a book entitled ''Insomnia and its Cure'', which tells him filling his pillow with duck feathers is essential for a good night's sleep. The next morning, the fox heads out to capture a duck and soon comes across one. The duck, however, proves to be too much for the fox to handle, as he is constantly outsmarted and all his plans to capture him backfire at every turn. Frustrated, the fox tries one last ditch effort to capture the duck, who is flying just out of his reach. Arthur Davis (animator)
Arthur Davis ( Davidavitch) (June 14, 1905 – May 9, 2000) was an American animator and director known for his time at Warner Brothers' Termite Terrace cartoon studio. Early life Davis was born on June 14, 1905, in Yonkers, New York to Hungarian parents. He is the younger brother of animator Mannie Davis. Career Davis got his start as a teenager at Raoul Barre's Studio in 1918 and later moved to Jefferson Film Corporation when the Mutt and Jeff cartoons began being made there in January 1921 it was claimed that he won a cartoon competition. In 1923 he joined Out Of The Inkwell Films in New York, working as an assistant in 1922 since Dick Huemer proposed him to be an assistant. He is reputed to have been the first in-betweener in the animation industry. Another of his distinctions was that he tapped out the famous "bouncing ball" of the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" cartoons of the 1920s. Manny Gould
Emanuel Gould (May 30, 1904 – July 19, 1975) was an American animated cartoonist from the 1920s to the 1970s, best known for his contributions as a director, writer and animator for Screen Gems, and solely an animator for Warner Bros. Cartoons and DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. Career Manny Gould began his career as a teenager working for several New York-based animation studios. He would later partner with Ben Harrison to form the short lived Harrison-Gould studios. Both later moved to Winkler Pictures to work on the ''Krazy Kat'' cartoon series as animators, writers and directors. After Charles Mintz took over Winkler Pictures, the studio was moved to Los Angeles in 1931 to develop The Charles Mintz Studio (later renamed Screen Gems) after establishing a partnership with Columbia Pictures.
