''Perverted by Language'' is the sixth studio album by English post-punk group The Fall (band), The Fall, released in December 1983 on Rough Trade Records. The record gave the band their first number one album on the UK Independent Chart since ''Grotesque (After the Gramme)'' in 1980, and spent fourteen weeks on the chart. Background ''Perverted by Language'' is the first Fall album to feature Brix Smith, then-wife of Mark E. Smith. However, the majority of the album was recorded before she had joined the band. It was released in 1983 by Rough Trade Records, Rough Trade in the UK, Virgin Records in France, Megadisc in the Netherlands, Line Records in Germany, and Base Record in Italy. Matador Records
Matador Records is an independent record label, with a roster of mainly indie rock, but also punk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, and electronic acts. History Matador was created in 1989 by Chris Lombardi in his New York City apartment. Lombardi had brought the Austrian duo H.P. Zinker into Wharton Tiers’ Fun City studio to record Matador's first release, "...and there was light". Lombardi continued to add artists to the label's roster, with bands like the Dustdevils, Railroad Jerk and Superchunk, before being joined by former Homestead Records manager Gerard Cosloy in 1990. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of music that emerged in late 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians departed from punk's fundamental elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a broader, more experimental approach that encompassed a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and do it yourself ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the music production, production techniques of dub music, dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, Film, cinema and modernist literature, literature. Brix Smith
Brix Smith (born Laura Elisse Salenger; November 12, 1962) is an American singer and guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist and a major songwriter for the English post-punk band the Fall during two stints in the band (1983–1989, and 1994–1996). Acknowledging her importance to the band, and noting she co-wrote several songs for the band's most widely acclaimed album '' This Nation's Saving Grace'' (1985), some critics break the Fall's career and evolution into the pre-Brix years, the Brix years, and the post-Brix years. She is currently the lead vocalist and guitarist with Brix & the Extricated, along with brothers Steve and Paul Hanley, both of whom were long time musicians in the Fall. She published her memoir ''The Rise, The Fall, And The Rise'' with Faber & Faber in May 2016, noting that "writing the book freed my creativity to play again." Marc Riley (born 10 July 1961) is an English radio DJ, alternative rock critic, musician, and former music businessman. He currently presents on BBC Radio 6 Music. Simon Wolstencroft
Simon John Wolstencroft (born 19 January 1963) is an English rock drummer best known for playing with the Fall from 1986 to 1997. He also played with early incarnations of the Smiths and the Stone Roses. His highly praised autobiography ''You Can Drum But You Can't Hide'' was published in 2014. The Stone Roses Wolstencroft was a member of the Patrol, an early incarnation of the Stone Roses, with childhood friends Ian Brown and John Squire. He was also the drummer for Freak Party, which featured Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke. In '' Songs That Saved Your Life'', Marr states that Wolstencroft declined to join the then-upcoming the Smiths as he did not like Morrissey's voice. Von Südenfed was a collaboration between Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner (of Mouse on Mars), and Mark E. Smith, leader and vocalist of the Fall. History The three first collaborated on a 2004 12" double A-side entitled "Wipe that Sound"/"Cut the Gain", which was released on the Sonig label. This was followed by a full-length album, '' Tromatic Reflexxions'', released on Domino Records in 2007, with two singles being drawn from the album: "Fledermaus Can't Get It" and "The Rhinohead". Imperial Wax
Imperial Wax are a British alternative rock band, formed in 2018 by guitarist Pete Greenway, bassist Dave Spurr and drummer Keiron Melling, all had previously played together in the final line-up of the long-established post-punk group, The Fall. After the death of the Fall's vocalist and band-leader Mark E. Smith, the trio recruited vocalist and guitarist Sam Curran to form Imperial Wax. The band describe themselves as, "noise rock & garage brawlers unafraid of a psych workout or a rockabilly dust-up."
