Hymer AG is a motorhome and caravan manufacturer, located in Bad Waldsee, Germany. One of the largest manufacturers of motorhomes and caravans in Europe, the listed company Hymer AG owns several brands, including; Burstner, Carado, Sunlight, Etrusco, Elddis, Hymer, Laika, LMC, Niesmann + Bischoff, Dethleffs, Eriba, as well as camping equipment wholesale Movera. In February 2017 it acquired The Explorer Group based in Consett, UK adding the Elddis, Buccaneer, Compass and Xplore brands to its portfolio. In 2018, Thor Industries acquired Hymer. History Alfons Hymer, the father of Erwin Hymer, had operated a repair shop in Bad Waldsee since 1923. Isny im Allgäu ( Low Alemannic: ''Isny im Allgai'') is a town in south-eastern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is part of the district of Ravensburg, in the western, Württembergish part of the Allgäu region. Isny was a Free Imperial City (''Freie Reichsstadt'') until the mediatisation of 1803. History During the three centuries following its origin in 1042, it was a commercial center controlled and exploited by various competing feudal lords. Kehl
Kehl (; gsw, label= Low Alemannic, Kaal) is a town in southwestern Germany in the Ortenaukreis, Baden-Württemberg. It is on the river Rhine, directly opposite the French city of Strasbourg, with which it shares some municipal servicesfor example the Strasbourg tramway, which now reaches Kehl. History The village of Kehl was first mentioned in 1038. In 1338 the first permanent bridge between Kehl and Strasbourg was completed. Elddis
Elddis is a caravan and motorhome manufacturer based in Consett, County Durham, England. History Elddis was founded in 1965 by Siddle Cook and his son, Raymond, and is named for 'Siddle' spelt backwards. They established a factory in Consett, County Durham, and in 1960, were manufacturing two popular models of caravan, Whirlwind and Tornado. A third model, Cyclone, was launched in the late 1960s. Its caravans were mainly named for meteorological fenomena like stratus etc. In 1973, Elddis was acquired by Ace Belmont International (ABI), a company formed the previous year by a merger between Ace Caravans and Belmont Caravans. Laika
Laika (russian: link=no, Лайка; – 3 November 1957) was a Soviet space dog who was one of the first animals in space and the first to orbit the Earth. A stray mongrel from the streets of Moscow, she flew aboard the Sputnik 2 spacecraft, launched into low orbit on 3 November 1957. As the technology to de-orbit had not yet been developed, Laika's survival was never expected. She died of overheating hours into the flight, on the craft's fourth orbit. Little was known about the impact of spaceflight on living creatures at the time of Laika's mission, and animal flights were viewed by engineers as a necessary precursor to human missions. The experiment, which monitored Laika's vital signs, aimed to prove that a living organism could survive being launched into orbit and continue to function under conditions of weakened gravity and increased radiation, providing scientists with some of the first data on the biological effects of spaceflight.
