The Eternal Struggle
''The Eternal Struggle'' is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by Reginald Barker. Distributed by Metro Pictures, the film is based on the 1913 novel ''The Law-Bringers'', written by Edith Joan Lyttleton. Plot The film focuses on Andrée Grange, the daughter of a local cafe owner. She is about to marry Neil Tempest, a sergeant at the North-West Mounted Police, but is actually in love with Bucky O'Hara, one of Tempest's underlings whom she is constantly flirting with. Meanwhile, her father is attacked in his cabin by Barode Dukane. Andrée, who has witnessed the struggle, feels that she is responsible for the following death of Barode. Her father helps her flee town by ship and O'Hara is assigned to locate and arrest her. He tracks her down, but is followed by Tempest. Tempest tries to help her, but they are caught in the rapids. O'Hara eventually comes to the rescue, saving Tempest and Andrée's lives. In the end, her innocence is proven and Tempest breaks the engagemen ... Reginald Barker
Reginald C. Barker (April 2, 1886 – February 23, 1945) was a pioneer film director. Biography Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Barker's family moved to Scotland when he was an infant and then to the United States. Living in California, Barker wrote, produced, and acted in his first play known as ''Granna Uile'' at the age of sixteen following which he acted and handled stage manager duties with a traveling stock company (acting), stock company. When he was eighteen he was the leading man and played in many stock companies. Then he worked with Robert C. Hilliard (actor), Robert Hilliard in the production of the play named ''A Fool There Was''. At age nineteen, he went to New York City where he worked as a stage manager for Henry Miller (actor), Henry Miller. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature film, feature or short film in which the original negative or copies are not known to exist in any studio archive, private collection, or public archive. Films can be wholly or partially lost for a number of reasons. Early films were not thought to have value beyond their theatrical run, so many were discarded afterward. Nitrate film used in early pictures was highly flammable and susceptible to degradation. The Library of Congress began acquiring copies of American films in 1909, but not all were kept. Due to improvements in film technology and recordkeeping, few films produced in the 1950s or beyond have been lost. George Kuwa
George Kuwa (born Keichii Kuwahara) was a Japanese and American Issei (Japanese immigrant) film actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1916 and 1931. Early life According to contemporaneous reports, Kuwa was born in Hiroshima, Japan on 7 April 1885. His father was a judge and wanted George to follow suit. Career Kuwa moved to the U.S. around 1916 or 1917 and began a career in Hollywood. Like many Japanese actors of the era, he often played Chinese characters. Anders Randolf (December 18, 1875 – July 2, 1930) was a Danish-American actor in American films from 1913 to 1930. Early biography Randolf was born in Viborg, Denmark on December 18, 1875. As a youth, he attended a military academy, graduated ''Maitre d'Arms'' and served with the Royal Danish Hussars, earning a reputation as a world-class swordsman. Randolf emigrated to the United States in 1893 and joined the U.S. Army, serving with the 17th US Infantry.
