''The W'' is the third studio album by American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. It was released on November 21, 2000, by Loud Records. After their 1997 album ''Wu-Tang Forever'', several of the group's members released solo projects before ''The W'', which has a more rugged, less polished sound than that of most Wu-Tang related albums from that era. Jamel Irief (born Elgin Evander Turner; August 18, 1969), better known by his stage name Masta Killa, is an American rapper and member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He was only featured on one track on their 1993 debut album '' Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)'', but has been prolific on Clan group albums and solo projects since the mid-1990s. Patrick Charles (born September 7, 1972), known professionally as Street Life, is an American rapper who is a close associate of the Wu-Tang Clan and its affiliate Wu-Tang Killa Beez, particularly of Method Man. He was born in the Bronx and moved to Houston, and later moved to Staten Island where he grew up.
