The Eighth Commissioner
''The Eighth Commissioner'' ( hr, Osmi povjerenik) is a 2018 Croatian comedy film directed by Ivan Salaj. It was selected as the Croatian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Plot Based on the novel of same name by Renato Baretić, a disgraced politician is sent to a remote Croatian island to coordinate its first valid election. He hopes to succeed where the previous seven commissioners failed. Ivan Salaj
Ivan Salaj ( sr-cyr, Иван Салај; 10 May 1961 – 6 January 2020) was a Serbian professional basketball player. Playing career A power forward, Salaj played 22 seasons in Yugoslavia from 1977 to 1999. During his playing days, he played for KK 25. Maj ( Srem from the 1990s) on two occasions, Crvena zvezda, Borovo, and Mitrovčani. He retired as a player with his hometown club Mitrovčani in 1999. During his tenure with Crvena zveda of the Yugoslav Federal League from 1978 to 1983, he was a part of the talented cast along with Slobodan Nikolić, Predrag Bogosavljev, Zufer Avdija, Boban Janković, Stevan Karadžić, and Branko Kovačević. Ivo Gregurević (; 7 October 1952 – 1 January 2019) was a Croatian film, theatre and television actor. Throughout over a quarter of a century, Gregurević played rural bullies and arrogant nouveau riche and became one of Croatia's best known and most lauded character actors. Biography Born in the village of Donja Mahala, Ivo was the child of Marko and Jela Gregurević. He graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art, and has worked in over 90 movies and television programs since the late 1970s; in particular, he acted in almost all of Croatian movies after gaining independence in 1991. Independent Croatia has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1992. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit, known as the Best Foreign Language Film Award, was introduced for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. Since achieving independence from Yugoslavia, Croatia has submitted 30 films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film , but none have been nominated for an Oscar. This is a list of submissions to the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement.
