The Double Man (1967 Film)
''The Double Man'' is a 1967 British spy film directed by Franklin Schaffner, starring Yul Brynner. Britt Ekland, Clive Revill, Anton Diffring, Moira Lister, and Lloyd Nolan appear in support. The plot is very loosely based on the critically acclaimed 1958 novel ''Legacy of a Spy'' by Henry S. Maxfield. As in the novel, much of the action takes place in the Austrian Alps. Brynner is a CIA agent investigating his son's fatal "accident": although he learns a few things from others, he slowly is convinced something else is happening and discovers a fiendish Russian plan. Plot In East Berlin during the Cold War of the mid-1960s a colonel in Stasi intelligence explains to a visiting Russian army general his plan to infiltrate the upper ranks of the CIA. Carl Jaffe
Carl Jaffe (21 March 1902 – 12 April 1974) was a German actor. Jaffe trained on the stage in his native Hamburg, Kassel and Wiesbaden before moving to Berlin, where his career began to develop. In 1933 Jaffe changed his stage name to Frank Alwar, but in 1936, with the situation for Jews in Germany rapidly deteriorating, he made the decision to migrate to the United Kingdom. He remained in the UK for the rest of his life and appeared in more than 50 films and many television productions. Throughout his British career he was often cast as German or Central European characters, usually in supporting roles, and often with a war, crime or espionage setting. The Ministry for State Security (, ; abbreviated MfS), commonly known as the (, an abbreviation of ), was the Intelligence agency, state security service and secret police of East Germany from 1950 to 1990. It was one of the most repressive police organisations in the world, infiltrating almost every aspect of life in East Germany, using torture, intimidation and a vast network of informants to crush dissent.
