''The Doors'' is the debut studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on January 4, 1967, by Elektra Records. It was recorded in August and September 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders, in Hollywood, California, with Paul A. Rothchild serving as producer. The album features the full length version of the band's breakthrough single " Light My Fire" and the lengthy closer "The End" with its Oedipal spoken word section. Various publications, including ''BBC'' and ''Rolling Stone'', have named ''The Doors'' one of the greatest debut albums of all time. The Doors worked on the material of their debut album throughout 1966 at various locations and stages, such as the Whisky a Go Go. The Doors
The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, comprising vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore. They were among the most influential and controversial rock acts of the 1960s, primarily due to Morrison's lyrics and voice, along with his erratic stage persona and legal issues. The group is widely regarded as an important figure of the counterculture of the 1960s, era's counterculture. The band took its name from the title of the English writer Aldous Huxley's book ''The Doors of Perception'', itself a reference to a quote by the English poet William Blake. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. John Densmore
John Paul Densmore (born December 1, 1944) is an American musician. He is best known as the drummer of the Rock music, rock band the Doors and as such is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He appeared on every recording made by the band, with drumming inspired by jazz and world music as much as by rock and roll. The many honors he shares with the other Doors include a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Grammy Award for lifetime achievement and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Densmore is also noted for his veto of attempts by the other two Doors members, in the wake of singer Jim Morrison's 1971 death, to accept offers to license the rights to various Doors songs for commercial purposes as well as his objections to their use in the 21st century of the Doors name and logo. Rick & The Ravens
Rick & the Ravens was an American surf rock and frat rock band founded in 1961, known as the forerunner of the Doors. Members Ray Manczarek, John Densmore, and Jim Morrison renamed the group in the latter half of 1965 after joining forces with Robby Krieger. Rick & the Ravens recorded three singles on Aura Records and a demo acetate containing six songs that were later re-recorded on The Doors' albums. Ray Manzarek
Raymond Daniel Manzarek Jr. ( Manczarek; February 12, 1939 – May 20, 2013) was an American keyboardist. He is best known as a member of the rock band the Doors, co-founding the group in 1965 with fellow UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, UCLA Film School graduate Jim Morrison. Manzarek is credited for his innovative playing and abilities on Organ (music), organ-style keyboard instruments. Manzarek was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a Doors member. The National Recording Registry is a list of sound recordings that "are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, and inform or reflect life in the United States." The registry was established by the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, which created the National Recording Preservation Board, whose members are appointed by the Librarian of Congress.
