The Domino State
The Domino State is an English alternative rock/indie band from London, England. The band have released two albums; ''Uneasy Lies The Crown'' in 2010 and ''Open Heart World'' in 2014. One of the band's guitarists (Tim Buckland) has been credited with teaching his younger brother, Jonny Buckland (of Coldplay) how to play guitar. History The Domino State started out from a previous London based band called 'At The Lake' who released two singles on the Poptones label; "These Days" in 2005 and "I Made My Excuses and Left" in 2006. The group disbanded when their original bass player left and moved to Australia. The three remaining members of Matt Forder, James Machin and Tim Buckland formed a new band with Wil Padley and Rich Simic. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Jonny Buckland
Jonathan Mark Buckland (born 11 September 1977) is an English-born Welsh musician and songwriter best known as the lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock band Coldplay. Raised in Pantymwyn, he began to play guitar from an early age, being influenced by acts such as The Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine and U2. Noted for sparse and delicate arrangements, he uses the slide bar and delay pedal with a stylistic chiming and ringing timbre that led to comparisons with the Edge. Buckland has a degree in mathematics and astronomy at University College London, where he formed Coldplay with Chris Martin, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. M83 are a French electronic music group formed in Antibes in 1999 and currently based in Los Angeles. Initially a duo of multi-instrumentalists Nicolas Fromageau and Anthony Gonzalez, Fromageau parted ways shortly after touring for their second album ''Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts''. Gonzalez remains the sole constant member of the project, serving as the primary songwriter and lead vocalist. Longview (British Band)
Longview were a British indie rock band from Manchester, England. History Its members were chief songwriter Rob McVey, guitarist Doug Morch, bassist Aidan Banks and drummer Francesco Mendolia. Original drummer Matt Dabbs left the band for family reasons during 2007. German electronic musician and record producer Ulrich Schnauss joined the band between 2005 and 2010 but left to concentrate on various other projects. The band formed in Manchester in 2002, and built its reputation with several appearances at The Night and Day Café. Longview subsequently signed to 14th Floor Recordings. Their only album, '' Mercury'', was released in July 2003. The 2011 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts was held from 22–26 June 2011. Tickets for the festival went on sale from 9 am on Sunday 3 October 2010, over 37 weeks before the festival was set to begin, with a deposit of £50 being paid, while the whole cost of a ticket is £195 (+£5 booking fee and postage and packaging). It was the last regular edition of Glastonbury until 2013, to make way for the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics.
