The Doctors (soap Opera)
''The Doctors'' is an American daytime soap opera television series which aired on NBC from April 1, 1963, to December 31, 1982. From anthology to serial ''The Doctors'' debuted on April 1, 1963, using an anthology format with different characters in each story; this was in contrast to all of the other daytime dramas on air at the time. The viewership numbers were not encouraging, however: in that first season, ''The Doctors'' pulled only a 3.4 rating, next-to-worst among network TV soaps. Beginning on March 2, 1964, however, ''the Doctors'' became a traditional continuing serial, more than doubling the ratings to 7.5 mark. For most of the series, storylines revolved around Hope Memorial Hospital and its patriarch Chief of staff Dr. Matt Powers (played by James Pritchett), who started on the program on July 9, 1963, although Pritchett originally appeared on the series during its weekly anthology period, in another role. Orin Tovrov
Orin Tovrov (April 30, 1911 - August 16, 1980) was an American screenwriter. He is notable as the creator of the long-running soap opera television series ''The Doctors (1963 TV series), The Doctors''. He also wrote the ''Ma Perkins'' radio soap opera for 27 years, interrupted only by Navy service in World War II, and he created and wrote the radio show ''The Brighter Day'', which ran briefly in the late 1940s. He was an active citizen of his adopted home town of Orleans on Cape Cod, serving on the School Committee, being active in rebuilding the town's library after a devastating fire, and founding The Orleans Conservation Trust. Tovrov has two children; the late John Tovrov (May 20, 1948 - March 3, 2022) and Jessica Tovrov. Tovrov died in August 1980 in Orleans, Massachusetts, at the age of 69. Ann Morgan Williams (May 18, 1935 – December 13, 1985) was an American television, soap opera and Broadway actress. Career A native of Washington, D.C., Williams' early roles included Vivienne Choiseul in the October 1961 '' Naked City'' episode "Dead on the Field of Honor", and Erica Brandt on the soap opera ''Young Doctor Malone'' from 1962 to 1963. Williams appeared on Broadway in 1963 as Frances Black in '' The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore'' by Tennessee Williams. She portrayed the first Dr. Maggie Fielding Powers on '' The Doctors'' from 1963 to 1965, and was perhaps best known for her role as the second Eunice Gardner Wyatt on ''Search for Tomorrow'' from 1966 to 1976. ''One Life to Live'' (often abbreviated as ''OLTL'') is an American soap opera broadcast on the American Broadcasting Company, ABC television network for more than 43 years, from July 15, 1968, to January 13, 2012, and then on the internet as a web series on Hulu and iTunes via Prospect Park (production company), Prospect Park from April 29 to August 19, 2013. Mel Brandt
Melville Brandt (June 18, 1919 – March 14, 2008) was an actor and NBC staff announcer. Early life Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mel Brandt’s military records state that he attended college for two years, and his civilian occupation was actor. He enlisted on February 17, 1941 in New York City, and served in the Medical Department. In September of 1945 Brandt auditioned for NBC radio’s Welcome Home, a program started in 1944 as a way to help World War II veterans obtain work in radio. Encouraged by his "A plus" audition rating he auditioned for numerous radio series, and was hired to work in a commercial on a daytime radio serial on another network.
