The Dirty Projectors
Dirty Projectors is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002. The band is the project of singer-songwriter David Longstreth, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Longstreth, alongside Maia Friedman (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Felicia Douglass (vocals, percussion, keyboards) and Olga Bell (vocals, keyboards). Since its formation, Dirty Projectors has released eight full-length studio albums, with the project featuring major contributions from co-lead vocalist and guitarist Amber Coffman from 2006 to 2013. Following the release of '' Rise Above'' (2007), an album of Black Flag songs as re-imagined from memory, Dirty Projectors released their break-through album, ''Bitte Orca'' in 2009. John Pullman "Jake" Longstreth Jr. (born February 3, 1977) is an American painter, musician, and radio personality. He is currently the co-host of the Apple Music 1 show, '' Time Crisis with Ezra Koenig'' and member of a Grateful Dead cover band, Richard Pictures, as well as his own musical outfit, Mountain Brews. Education Longstreth received his Bachelor of Arts in 1999 from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and his Master of Fine Arts in 2005 from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, California. Career He is a 2008 recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. The first four EPs each feature a different band member as lead vocalist: ''Windows Open'' (Maia Friedman), ''Flight Tower'' (Felicia Douglass), ''Super João'' ( Dave Longstreth), ''Earth Crisis'' (Kristin Slipp). ''Lamp Lit Prose'' is the eighth studio album by American experimental rock group Dirty Projectors, and was released on Domino Records on July 13, 2018. Production The album was produced by David Longstreth at his Los Angeles studio. Release The band supported the album with a tour, which began in May 2018 with significant personnel changes. They released the first single off the album, "Break-Thru", on May 2 along with a music video. In ''Spin'', Andy Cush described the single as sounding "more immediately Dirty Projectors-ish than anything on the self-titled album" released in 2017. ''Dirty Projectors'' is the seventh studio album by American experimental rock group Dirty Projectors, which was released on Domino Records on February 21, 2017. The album deals with themes of break-up, depression, and reconciliation, following the breakup of Longstreth and Coffman and the ensuing 4-year hiatus in the band's activities. It makes use of more DAW-inspired techniques than the previous 3 albums, similar to their 4th album glitch opera The Getty Address, this time including wholly synthesised sounds in a clear stylistic departure from earlier recordings, Longstreth having previously stated 'I don't like synthesisers'. Angel Deradoorian (born July 18, 1986), also known mononymously as Deradoorian, is a musician based in Los Angeles, California. She is best known for her work with Dirty Projectors as full-time member from 2007 to 2012. She left to pursue a solo career. In 2015 she released a solo studio album, '' The Expanding Flower Planet''. Life and career Born and raised in Orangevale, California and of Armenian descent, Deradoorian first found an interest in music at the age of five, when she was taught violin and piano at the private school she attended. ''Bitte Orca'' is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Dirty Projectors, released on June 9, 2009, by Domino Recording Company. The word "bitte" is a German word for "please", and "orca" is another name for a killer whale. Frontman David Longstreth states that he liked the way the words sounded together. Longstreth notes that the music contained within the album "felt very uchabout colors, and their interaction," and that the music was written with the notion of the band, as a whole, in mind. Two of the album's tracks, "Temecula Sunrise" and "Cannibal Resource", appeared on the subsequent EP release, ''Temecula Sunrise'', alongside two new songs. Black Flag is an American punk rock band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. Initially called Panic, the band was established by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter, and sole continuous member, and singer Keith Morris. The album was band leader David Longstreth's reinterpretation of Black Flag (band), Black Flag album ''Damaged (Black Flag album), Damaged'' from memory having not heard it in 15 years.
