Frankie & The Heartstrings
Frankie & The Heartstrings are a Sunderland-based indie rock band formed in 2008. The band's debut album, ''Hunger'' was released on 21 February 2011, and debuted at No. 32 on the UK albums chart. Known for their partying, they were labelled as the indie Mötley Crüe. History Singer Frankie Francis and guitarist Michael McKnight were at college together. Drummer Dave Harper and McKnight had played in local bands for years. McKnight and Harper met Francis at a calypso night in a pub the singer was running at the time in Sunderland and formed the band in December 2008. Singer Francis had intended to play bass in the band, but Harper said that "He was the worst bassist ever". The band made their live debut in Christmas 2008 after friend Steven Dennis joined on bass. Former Kenickie drummer, Johnny X, now known by his real name Pete Gofton, joined as a keyboardist. Wichita Recordings is an independent record label located in London, founded in 2000 by Mark Bowen and Dick Green. Its most notable signees include Bloc Party, The Cribs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Best Coast, Los Campesinos! and Peter Bjorn and John. The label signed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a UK distribution deal for the group's debut album. They also signed the UK producers Simian Mobile Disco for the UK. The label's first release was the Bright Eyes album '' Fevers and Mirrors'', released in 2000. ''Hunger'' is the first album released by Sunderland indie band Frankie & The Heartstrings. It was released on 21 February 2011 on the band's own label, Pop Sex Ltd., a subsidiary of Wichita Recordings. A live version of the album was available to redeem online when bought from HMV. The album, produced by Orange Juice's Edwyn Collins, was recorded at his West Heath Studios, in London.
