''The David Johansen Group Live'' was originally a promotional-only LP released by David Johansen to help promote his solo career away from the New York Dolls. The nine tracks from the promotional LP were recorded on July 21, 1978 at the New York's The Bottom Line. In 1993, a CD was released of the full 18 songs from the 1978 concert. Sylvain Sylvain and Johnny Thunders (Johansen's bandmates from the New York Dolls) appear as guest performers on the album. David Johansen
David Roger Johansen (January 9, 1950 – February 28, 2025) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor best known as lead singer of the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls. He is also known for his work under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter and for playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in '' Scrooged'' (1988). Early life Johansen was born in the New York City borough of Staten Island, to a librarian mother, Helen (Cullen), and an insurance sales representative father, Gunvold Johansen, who had previously sung opera. His mother was Irish American and his father was Norwegian American. He was one of five siblings. Johansen attended St. Peter's Boys High School, but was expelled in 1964. He finished his high school education at Port Richmond High School. After graduating, Johansen became involved with the scene at Andy Warhol's Factory. Chris Andrews (singer)
Christopher Frederick Andrews (born 15 October 1942) is a British-German singer-songwriter and producer whose musical career started in the late 1950s. His biggest hits as a solo artist include "To Whom It Concerns", " Yesterday Man" (a UK no. 3) and " Pretty Belinda". Between 1965 and 1970, across five countries, thirteen of his songs reached number one. Andrews wrote for many artists, notably fifteen songs for Sandie Shaw, including " As Long as You're Happy Baby", " Don't Run Away", " Girl Don't Come", " I'll Stop At Nothing", " Long Live Love", " Message Understood", " Nothing Comes Easy", " Run", " Show Me", " Think It All Over", "Today", " Tomorrow" and " You've Not Changed". Frankie LaRocka
Frankie LaRocka (April 17, 1954 – May 12, 2005), born Frank LaRocca, was an American rock musician and producer. He was a member of Scandal, playing drums on their debut EP, and, at various stages, played the drums with Bon Jovi, David Johansen, Bryan Adams, and John Waite. In the 1990s, he became an A&R man and producer with his most notable work being with the Spin Doctors on their breakthrough album ''Pocket Full of Kryptonite''. Musical history LaRocka started his career playing drums with David Johansen on Johansen's self-titled album from 1978. He joined Scandal in 1982 and played on their self-titled album of the same year as well as earning credit on John Waite's ''Ignition'' album. LaRocka toured with Bryan Adams on his 1983 world tour, and was part of the band when they appeared that year live in concert on the televised Rockpalast show (also broadcast live on European radio). Frank Edward Wilson (December 5, 1940 – September 27, 2012) was an American songwriter, singer, and record producer for Motown Records. Early life and education Wilson was born on December 5, 1940, in Houston, Texas, to James Wilson and Samanther Gibbs. Wilson attended Southern University in Baton Rouge but only for one year; he had participated in a civil rights protest and lost his scholarship in his sophomore year. While still in his teens, he moved to Los Angeles, California. Career In 1963, Berry Gordy asked the producers Hal Davis and Marc Gordon to set up an office of Motown in Los Angeles. Wilson accepted an offer to join the team. "Love Child" is a 1968 song released by the Motown label for Diana Ross & the Supremes. The second single and title track from their album '' Love Child'', it became the Supremes' 11th number-one single in the United States, where it sold 500,000 copies in its first week and 2 million copies by year's end. The record took just three weeks to reach the Top Ten of ''Billboards Hot 100 pop chart, which eventually it topped for two weeks (issues dated November 30 and December 7, 1968), before being dethroned by an even bigger Motown single, Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". "Love Child" also performed well on the soul chart — where it spent three weeks at no. 2 (behind Johnnie Taylor's " Who's Making Love") — and paved new ground for a major pop hit with its then-controversial subject matter of illegitimacy. Ronnie Scott was a British pop music promoter, group manager and songwriter; known primarily for hit songs co-written with Marty Wilde in the 1960s, and Steve Wolfe in the 1970s. With Marty Wilde In 1966, Scott was working for The George Cooper Agency, whose artists roster included Man (band)#The Bystanders, The Bystanders (who Scott also managed) and Marty Wilde. Scott wrote a number of songs, some on his own, but most co-written with Wilde, demo (music), demos of which were recorded by The Bystanders. One solo effort "Royal Blue Summer Sunshine Day" (1967) and two joint efforts "Have I Offended The Girl" (1966) and "When Jesamine Goes" (published under the pseudonyms of Frere Manston and Jack Gellar) (1968) were issued as singles, but all failed.
