''The Cowra Breakout'' is a 1984 Australian mini series based on the Cowra breakout, focusing on the friendship between an Australian soldier and Japanese prisoner.Ed. Russell Braddon
Russell Reading Braddon (25 January 1921 – 20 March 1995) was an Australian writer of novels, biographies and TV scripts. His chronicle of his four years as a prisoner of war, '' The Naked Island'', sold more than a million copies. Braddon was born on 25 January 1921 in North Sydney, New South Wales. He was the son of Thelma Doris (née Reading) and Henry Russell Braddon. His father, a barrister, was the grandson of Tasmanian premier Edward Braddon. Braddon enlisted in the Australian Army during World War II, serving in the Malayan campaign. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese in Pudu and Changi prisons and on the Thailand-Burma Railway between 1942 and 1945. Simon Chilvers
Simon Chilvers (born 5 April 1939) is an English-born, Australia-based television actor. Early life Chilvers was born in London in 1939, and discovered art as a young child, drawing images of planes flying overhead during World War II. He attended Knox Grammar School, in the Sydney suburb of Wahroonga, from 1949 to 1956. Upon leaving school, his parents encouraged him to pursue a career in advertising. Unenthused, he was instead inspired by his grandmother to attend an acting audition, where he was immediately offered a role.
